The election strategy is evolving for the Republicans...
By November, it will be "us" vs "them". They will divide this nation to the extent that the election will not be about policies at all. It will not be about the failure in Iraq or the incompetence in New Orleans. Or the huge deficits or the economy. Or the indictments or crimes that have been committed. It will only be about "us" vs "them". We will be the "enemies". That's all their Republican supporters need to know. However, my fear is that we will accomodate them to make their strategy successful. I do believe this is hte direction we are headed.

1. Yeah, of course this is the strategy
This is what they do, divide and conquer. They planned on using immigration as a way of saying that Dems support illegal workers as a way of getting cheap labor into the country. The Repubs want people to believe that the Dems do not like or understand them and are out-of-touch with ordinary American concerns. (Truth, remember, is irrelevent.)

This is what the Rethugs do. Read Digby today. They plan on co-opting the election fraud issue and turning it into a Rethug concern. (Dems are registering 'them' as a way of stealing elections. The Dems hate ordinary Americans and because they can't win elections legally, they will import illegal voters to get into power. People, alas, will believe this.)

Since when hasn't this been their strategy?

scenarios:
Elect them and they will raise taxes
Elect them and they will make gay marriage leagal
Elect them and they will not allow oil production on Federal lands
Elect them and ....

3. I agree: "us" (=R's), flag waving/fence building/God Fearing/Family-
supporters/Jesus supporters vs "them" (D's), made out to be the opposite. The usual, throw some Guns in there, some prayer in schools and a little more hate and that will be it for them. Coulter's book is timed for their strategy.

4. But the sad part is :
they can win with that strategy. I have no faith in the American people anymore to smell shit for what it is.

5. Every Republican policy is based on their hatred for everyone else
"Vote for us or the fags will get married and molest your children, the brown people will blow you up and/or convert you to Islam, etc."

6. How Can We Possibly Save This Country
If the majority of people in the U.S. believe and agree with the Garbage being spewed by them, how can we save the future of this nation? If this is the direction they genuinely want to go, is there any way out? I'm not sure how I can live here much longer.

I was watching the latest Star Wars last night, and nobody could prevent Anakin from going to the dark side. Not his mentor, his wife, or his friends. He believed what he wanted to, and shut everyone else out. Nothing could save him.

And then the princess, with the comment...."So this is how liberty dies? With thunderous applause." Sounds a lot like this country, don't it?

7. What we need is a GOP scandal that will infuriate the base...
something like George Bush having an adulterous affair with Condoleeza Rice should do it!

If the story about Laura walking in on them is true, it could totally change the face of American politics. I think the GOP scandals already underway might be enough to turn off some of their base. If they lose enough of their base, they don't stand a chance. I know that doesn't necessarily mean they will vote for a Dem, but they might stay home and not vote at all, which would be a good thing.
