Virginia DUers...
Edited on Sat Jun-10-06 05:33 PM by Va Lefty
What are your thoughts on Tuesday's Senate Primary between Harris Miller and Jim Webb? I'm leaning toward Webb. I'm bothered by his Republican past, but think he would be a stronger candidate this fall. We REALLY need to get rid of Allen. I would be interested to hear everyone's opinions, but especially those of us in Virginia.

2. Yep, if Webb can get through this hurdle, the GOP is gonna shit
Tons of DNC money will pour into VA like water, and the GOP will have to match it, and they'll be pissed if Allen was a lazy fundraiser. I understand Allen has already run a few ads, to start seeding the field early at the cheaper rate (the price goes up as we head to NOV).

Of course, if Miller gets the win instead of Webb, Allen is a shoo-in. No contest.

7. Saw both of them last weekend.
Was at a local event and they both came to speak.

As a union person, with Miller's line of work, both as a lobbyist for agribusiness in California and his recent efforts in IT, well, I am loathe to support the guy. If he wins this on Tuesday, I will be seriously holding my nose in November. I won't not vote, that's never an option.

But in person, he is smart, always has a quick answer, and is totally (annoyingly) ingratiating - which was made apparent in less than 5 minutes into his stump speech. (He knows everyone in the room and wants everyone to know it.) He's more than qualified to run for US Senate, he knows how the game in DC is played, but I just didn't take to him.

Webb is not as slick and quick as Miller is. Definitely more thoughtful in his answers, which some may see as being hesitant, until you really listen to his answers. He mirrors very much my own thoughts on Iraq, on the situation with the American worker, Roe, Free Trade, etc. He needs to polish up his campaigning style if he gets over the hump on Tuesday. I'll take my chances on Webb.

The "establishment" Dems in Fairfax are, for the most part, backing Miller. Where he's been for all of these hard races we've had in the past 6 years that I've been involved is a mystery. I've never seen the guy out in Western Fairfax County one time, and he used to be the County Dem Chair.

There has been a lot of hard feelings about this race, but it seems that beyond the "establishment" County Dems here in Fairfax, the rank and file are for Webb. That was evident when he won the Fairfax County Dem straw poll a few months back. Shocked the Miller folks, that's for sure.

But, that's politics, ain't it?

8. my question was Miller - who lobbied against paper verifiable voting
or Webb - a republican who still says Ronnie walked on water?

Miller is a lobbyist who has a terrible (imho) track record - based on his stands for his clients

Webb is a Repuke/former SecNav

Why do I only get a choice between Former Repuke or Repuke-lite?

How do we know Webb won't be another DINO?

Or MIller either for that matter?

Most unsatisfactory choices all around......

11. This is...
pretty much exactly the reason I can't choose who to vote for.

10. As a neighbor on your northern fence, I've been looking over that
fence into your yard.

I understand the dilemma of a former Republican against a liberal lightweight capitalist corporatist lobbyist.

I'll take Webb at face value. He will be conservative, but he's against this war and he has serious creds among the military (a large part of your population).

12. I guess I'm leaning toward Webb
for the same reason you stated. It is our best chance to get rid of Allen. But is it true that Webb voted for Bush? I heard that in a campaign radio ad.
