I am looking at the Swift Boat Veterans and I do not understand the following:

Where is the historical data???

All I see is relatively new information.

Their IRS form 990 Shows $2.3M in cash.

Who contributed that money???

Where did it come from???

Inquiring minds want to know...

on edit for clearification

5. On the publicintegrity site, it lists $22 million.
http://www.publicintegrity.org/527/profile.aspx?act=dir&id=707&cycle=2004&sub=1

The tabs have donors, recipients, etc. Is this what you're looking for?

The IRS site is not as user friendly, but this one seems to be pretty well organized.

Is your purpose to determine the accessability of the IRS info at their site, or to gather data on the Swift Boat Liars? If you're trying to find donors/recipients/etc, publicintegrity.org site seems like a better option.

If I am not helping you, please let me know. Considering the tone of your response, I'd be just as happy to stop now.

I am using swift boats as a measure of accuracy & completeness of information.

According to the Fed Statutes the "entire" database is to be available for download. so far all I am seeing is bits & peices of information.

I think it might be helpful to know WHO contributed to WHAT... and visa versa. For example, the (swift boat vererans and pow's for truth) SWV&POWFT show a total of approx $300k raised in 2004; but their irs FORM 990 (for year ending 2005) SHOWS OVER $2.6M in cash at the end of 2004. Where did the additional $23M come from??? There are no 8872's filed before they received over $25M

I am after the raw data listing the items indicated in the statute inoder to create a 4gl database.

ps I am a bookkeeper not a database admin. but I have used very big databases...

7. I'm not a vodka drinker, but I'll have a bourbon with you.
I don't see anything at either site that is able to be put into a usable or searchable database, and both seem incomplete. I'm not a db admin, either, just curious. The IRS site is mostly PDF copies of filings. The public integrity site also appears to have some errors, unless the USAF and the US DOT contributed to the swifties (WTF? Maybe they were employers?).
Sorry, I didn't realize your purpose. I do think there's some good info at both sites, but not what you're looking for.

Cheers.

9. I must have just missed you.
Pittsburgh is quite a way from Seattle.
:-)
I know this doesn't help with your IRS database concern, but did you notice that on the public integrity site, if you click the forms tab, there's a text version of 527 donors? Only problem, if they filed a form on paper, it's not included. It's pretty easy to work with, though.
