Newt Gingrich putting out "feelers" for a presidential run....
He opened the door quite a bit wider this morning on FOX News. Previously he hinted he would run if there was not a consensus on a clear cut choice. Today, he expanded that to say if there was a shortage of ideas, he may throw his hat in the ring. From this perspective, it appears he plans to run unless the Party shoots him down. Right now, to most of the Republican hardcore, Newt may look like a Savior of the Party. He certainly looks better than those presently in power and he does have a way of appealing to the fiscal conservatives and those that continue to believe he is a man of "ideas". He could probably bring out the Republican faithful better than any other candidate out there at the present time. That would not bode well for the Democratic Party, in my opinion, although many think New t is carrying too much "baggage". But in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

2. God I hope they run him or Bill Frist
There is no way either of them could win, even with the help of Diebold.

3. Don't you mean "tentacles"
That creepy sausage will never be president, no matter who the dems run,
so i figure he's just doing it for a diversion or enterntainment, maybe
to get laid, a small price for his lucrative corruption position in the machine.

when dan quayle started to show up on TV, obviously putting out feelers. Didn't last long, and neither will this.

6. Maybe he can win
in one of the "Alternate History Universes" that he writes about. I think his best chance is the one where the Confederacy wins.

that guys like Newt Gingrich and Pat Buchanan are starting to sound like reasonable people.

11. The bible-thumpers would like him except for his divorces. They will
look past that when he bashes gay people, immigrants and non-white people and promises forced Christian prayer in schools and elimination of the physical sciences in schools. With some practice on his bible quotes he would win a primary easily.

12. A logical case could be made for Newt.
What the Republicans need more than anything is someone not at all associated with the failures of the Bush administration. Newt fits the bill sine he has been out of office for the Bush's entire term. Whatever embarrassing things he did as speaker are not nearly as bad as Bush's embarrassments.

15. but he spearheaded the Contract with America which was a failure
on many counts. He is intelligent and articulate, but he really has way too much baggage.

In other words, bring him on.

13. "disgrace" is not in a pols lexicon
The sad thing today is that the public either has a very short memory span or just doesn't care. I am always amazed at how politicians after being disgraced can show their smiling face as if nothing of significance ever happened. If it was me, I would be too ashamed to want to run for another office, let alone even consider running for president.

Talk about two polarizing candidates. Newt and Hillary would bring out the worst in both parties!

:)

16. You make an excellent observation...
If Newt were to run, he would divide the Republican Party moreso than they could ever imagine. They could unite behind Allen, McCain, perhaps Guliani, or anyone else. But if Newt were to run, he would have enough support to divide the moderates and Christian Right and might create havoc for the Repubs. Interesting thought.
