Sly Financing for the Mittster
Romney strategy pays off quickly

By Scott Helman and Chase Davis, Globe Staff and Globe Correspondent | June 11, 2006

Governor Mitt Romney is financing the early stages of his potential presidential campaign with a novel, multistate fund-raising operation that is allowing him to maximize legal donations, outflank top Republican competitors, and minimize public scrutiny.

Since July 2004, Romney has set up affiliates of his political action committee, the Commonwealth PAC, in five states. By having donors spread their contributions across the various affiliates, Romney has been able to effectively evade the $5,000-per-donor annual contribution limit that applies only to federal committees, which most presidential aspirants set up to build initial support for their candidacies.

The multistate system is helping Romney raise money quickly from relatively few contributors, and foster valuable political relationships around the country. It also is a strategy several potential opponents for the Republican nomination cannot use: Federal office-holders, under new campaign finance rules, are barred from operating such state affiliates.

<snip>

A review by the Globe of Commonwealth PAC campaign finance filings indicates that more than 100 donors have given a total of $1.6 million to Romney's various PAC organizations over the past two years. It is a relatively small amount compared to what Romney would need for a presidential campaign -- President Bush raised $273 million in 2004, for example -- but the creation of a fund-raising network will help establish Romney in monied circles that will be crucial if he decides to run for the White House.

1. That sleazy bastard wants it BAD, doesn't he??
Ya gotta wonder how he plans to do it...money is one thing, and he knows he'll need a ton of it, but at some point in time, the shitbird will have to mention HIS RECORD. His hideous, ineffective, awful, stinking record!

I mean, after all, not all of his campaign ads can have shots of that nitwit at the Salt Lake Olympics!!!

2. Yes, this is one guy
who wants it as badly as anyone could--which makes me feel very uneasy. Should be interesting to see the jockeying between him and the Jebster. Both have a lot of ugly baggage on top of the gigantic egos.

3. Jeb keeps saying he ain't running
And if that's the case, really, it must be because there's more stink in his background than even we know already. And it's gotta be pretty major, something he can't slough off as a "youthful indiscretion." It can't be for lack of BushCo drive, surely!

But, when you look at the GOP field, it's loaded with lightweights--Mitt the Shitt, Allen, Meow Mix Frist, Meet My Mistress, er, wife Giuliani....so no wonder Mitt, the Skeletor Ken Doll himself, thinks he has a shot. Hell, even Newt "I wed three wives" Gingrich has a shot in that crummy field!!!

4. I can't believe he's nearly ignored MA since the flooding
This is one stupid man - with the national awareness of Katrina - you think he'd realize that pretending to be a caring leader for a few weeks would pay off in photo ops.

5. You got that right--there are bridges and abutments that are crying
out for repair, detours everywhere, to say nothing of the displaced people. But hey, he was too busy spending tax dollars to take a junket to Iraq, so he could get some bogus troop pictures to use in his sleazy, cheesy ads....

The baaaaaaaaaaaastid!!!

6. I can believe that
I was in Massachusetts on May 13th, which I think was the first day, and couldn't believe how much rain there was. (My husband and I were picking up a daughter from college.) The fact that even the RW paper is up in arms should have some impact.

I saw some NECN video that was posted in the Kerry group from when he had some small business thing in Lawrence (?). I'm not sure what town they showed, but it looked really really bad.

7. Lawrence is in a world of hurt, so is Ipswich
At the worst of it, there were curfews, blackouts, and so on. And the ton of rain we got this past week isn't helping, I'm sure. The one road going into Ipswich goes over a damaged bridge.

Right up the road from me, an old bridge is down to one lane with jersey barriers blocking off one side. It's screwing up traffic big time.

And Mitt the Shitt is too busy prancing around trying to be PretzelDunce to even give a shit. And his LT GOV is completely worthless!! http://kerryhealeyoutoftouch.blogspot.com/2006/05/kerry-healey-tours-lawrence-flood.html
