Virginia Senate Primary...who to vote for...?
I am having a hard time deciding who to vote for tomorrow. On the one hand, I think Webb would give Allen the tougher fight, and may bloody him up enough to knock any Presidential ambitions out of his head. Webb seems like a thoughtful, intelligent person who actually thinks about issues, and doesn't tend to "sound bite" everything. I think this does cause confusion among meny as to how much of a Democrat he reallyt is. John Kerry, Bob Kerrey and many others have endorsed him. However, he supported Allen 6 years ago, and is still complimenting Ronald Reagan.

I don't think Miller stands a snowballs chance in hell of making a dent in Allen in the fall campaign. But he has been a lifelong Democrat, and has paid his dues.

The campaign has become a bit nasty.

Right now I am leaning toward Webb...but could change my mind before tomorrow!

1. Webb is the only one with even a remote chance of beating Allen

2. It doesn't matter who you think will win, it only matters who you believe
in and want to win. If everybody thought the way you just posted, I would be very afraid. :scared:

3. If everyone thought they way you did, we'd have even more repubs in office
It is easy to think about
1. how much you believe in a candidate
2. how they will do in the election

Nader 2000 voters learned what it means to only "vote for the one you believe in" without thinking about the consequences of their vote. After a few years of Bush they sure learned their lesson, as 85% of them bailed out on Nader in 2004.

7. I guess I must be a dying breed then
I am only going to vote for who I believe in, if that means more repukes then so be it. I will not waiver on principles and don't have much use for anyone who does.

8. I am morally opposed to letting republicans win
Republican rule is ruining this country, I could never help them by voting for democrats in primaries who have 0% chance of winning. I couldn't live with myself if I didn't do everything possible to keep repubs out of office, especially extreme wingnuts like Allen.

I don't think you are a dying breed at all, dem voters often support candidates who have no chance of winning general elections. If Hillary wins the nomination in 08, it will only be further proof.

10. I look to a higher goal...
To me it is od ULTIMATE importance that the Democrats retake the government. If I have to vote for someone with whom I am only going to agree 60% of the time...so be it. I agree with Allen 0% of the time so I have made progress. And lets be frank, I live in Virginia, I am not gonna get a Ted Kennedy elected to the U.S. Senate from this state.

4. It's a primary - vote with who you most agree and want repping you in the
senate. That's what they're there for.

5. I'm leaning towards Webb also.
I was really turned off by Miller's attack ads.

Plus Webb will kick Fake Cowboy Allen's butt. As Kaine showed, it is possible for a Democratic candidate to win by winning the Norfolk/Newport News areas, Northern VA, and one of the outer suburbs. I can't see Webb losing any of these areas.

6. I'd vote for Webb. I want to win the seat. He is the best chance.
Dems in control of either branch of Congress is the most important thing to me.

12. Yesterday I was with both of the candidates nearly all day.
I came away with ever increasing respect and enthusiasm for Jim Webb and increasing disgust for Harris Miller.
Miller's vile untrue accusations about "antisemitism" have gone beyond all respectful Democratic campaign limits. He is showing his sneaky, nasty side by taking the low road when he thinks that it will benefit him.

Harris has burned his bridges with Democrats like me. He has divided the Virginia Democratic party activists like no other.

We have a successful, patriotic, intelligent, respectful, proven leader in Jim Webb. An Andrew Jackson Populist. A Navy Cross honored war hero who is a legend in the Marines. A law degree from Georgetown. Years spent defending pro bono those who have been wrongly accused.
He HAS paid his dues; his support for the middle and lower classes are more Democratic than Harris Miller's record as a lobbyist and off-shore promoter.

He is not a seasoned campaigner, but he is improving quickly.

Jim Webb was Warner's first choice for the D. candidate. He is our only chance to defeat Allen and he has the right stuff to make a superb Senator.

Everything depends on this race- It could keep George Allen from the Whitehouse and put Mark Warner in it. Vote strategically now and you will be proud later.

13. We need more voices like Webb's in the Senate now
People who don't talk in spin, who have a strong personal moral compass, who have the courage of their convictions, men and women who can admit when they made a mistake and why they made it. Murtha isn't a liberal Democrat either but he has strong personal integrity. When Murtha thinks something is going wrong you can count on him to speak out. That's the type of Democrat Webb will be for us. Even if Virginia is becoming more of a swing state, it's not an outright Blue state. If we can get someone like Webb to represent us coming out of States like Virginia, and Democrats like Ted Kennedy to represent us coming out of states like MA, the country will be in a hell of a lot better shape than it is in right now.
