Replace Lieberman Today...
Ned Lamont is challenging Lieberman for the Democratic Nomination for Senate in the Connecticut Primaries on August 8th. (approximately 7 weeks remaining).

Lieberman is a Bush sycophant and doesn't remember what a "real" Democrat should be. Fortunately, we have a chance to replace him by electing someone who believes Democrats must represent the people and stand up to Bush and his Administration.

I am running for the US Senate because we deserve a Senator who will stand up for Connecticut and stand up for our progressive democratic values. Rather than spending hundreds of millions of dollars a day in Iraq, it is time for America to refocus on issues back home: fixing our health care system, upgrading our schools, and rebuilding our aging infrastructure. We will start winning in Iraq as the Iraqis take control of their own destiny, just as America has to start investing again in our own future.

On the other hand, what's wrong with Joe Lieberman? Any thoughtful answer would require a book!

:bluebox: Well, here's just a start, from TimeToGoJoe.com...
"The most obvious to date is where he stands on Iarq (and Iran). But we can see in his support of Roberts, Alito, Iraq, ending the New Deal, Medicare Part D, the Bankruptcy Bill, support of the Cheney energy plan, and almost every other major issue of our time, he supports the far right end of the spectrum. In fact, he has more in common with the Reverend Falwell and Reverend Pat Robertson than he does with most Americans who support the First Amendment."

Our opportunity extends only until the Connecticut Democratic Primaries on August 8th. Realistically, donations are needed yesterday as there are only a few weeks remaining in which to apply the final push. Everyone who can ought to rally around the challenger, make this a success and strengthen the Democratic Party. We need leaders who will stand up for our values, especially new ones replacing corrupt ones!

Let's all pitch in and help make a difference today...

8. Why Don't We Help?
We can. It would be in our own interest to do so. It only makes sense; we need to elect the best possible Democrats across the country, and in this case the choice is clear!

2. Lieberman. Lamont. Wow, has this become a big story or what?
Connecticut Democrats will get to decide in August whether to reject Lieberman's paler blue for Lamont's deeper shade.

But if Lieberman's internal polling tells him Lamont's numbers put Joe's campaign in the danger zone, Lieberman can run as an independent.

That's my guess for what will happen.

If Joe stays in as a Democrat, he is in for the fight of his life. He skipped the 04 Iowa caucus and concentrated funds and effort in New Hampshire, and was whomped.

Somebody on his staff will remember that decision and call for Joe to run as an independent.

That makes Ned Lamont the Democratic candidate running for the U.S. Senate in Connecticut.

3. I am 110% behind Lamont however....
Edited on Tue Jun-13-06 09:41 AM by LynneSin
...if the good people of Connecticut opt to go with Joe Lieberman dispite all that we've done, then we need Joe Lieberman in that seat. I know someone will reply back and blast me on it but I'm talking post primary here which means we need to keep a "D" in that seat. Let's just hope it's Lamont

5. I don't know who would "blast" you
After all, we're Democratic Underground, and we support Democrats around here. If Lieberman wins the Democratic primary in Connecticut, then there won't be any question about who to back in the general election for the Senate seat in Connecticut. And Ned Lamont has said as much, that he will unequivocally support the nominee, whoever it is. Lieberman, however, hasn't seen fit to make the same statement, and declined to allay rumors that he will run as an independent should he lose the primary.

For Mr. Lieberman, it appears that his presence in the Senate is more important to him than party considerations.

6. Oh trust me, if I had a nickel for everyone who blasted me
I'd be the richest person here at DU.

I'm not endorsing the guy - I'm endorsing democratic majority because it can only get better even if by a little bit, if we have that majority. If the good people of connecticut give us Joe Lieberman then they have spoken.

7. I would say that we can and should help.
While the vote is indeed up to the good people of Connecticut, we owe it to ourselves and our party to help elect the best Democrats across the nation--and it this case, it's plain as day which is best! This is to say that by donating to the Lamont campaign, we can help him reach the good people of Connecticut--and hopefully win in the primaries.

Obviously, even though his voting record makes him no better than a Republican, if Lieberman gets the nod, we should support him (though I wouldn't bother sending him a donation; I'd merely give him my public support--and then only because we must, as you say, have a (D) in that seat)(even a partial Democrat or Democrat In Name Only (DINO) is better than a Republican).

4. Finally heard Lamont's radio ad today
it was in morning drive time on one of the more listened to stations in the Hartford area (WTIC AM 1080)... so, I'm sure it was not cheap.

But, he said that if Lieberman won the primary, he would back Lieberman 100% and he challenged Lieberman to do the same if Lamont won. I liked it because Lieberman has not committed to supporting the will of Democrats if he loses the primary.
