That's how prominent Lieberman backer and former Democratic state party chair John F. Droney, Jr. describes Connecticut primary voters in a Courant article today where he strongly urges Lieberman to leave the party:

"I think to be terrorized through the summer by an extremely small group of the Democratic Party, much less the voting population, is total insanity for a person who is a three-term senator," Droney said....

"Every single weirdo in the left wing will be there," Droney said. "That's what the Lamont strategy is all about."

Wait. I'm confused. I thought Ned was a Republican.

They have enough sense not to attack their own base.

You know I was mildly anti-Lieberman until I saw his reaction to having to run against Lamont, now I want to throw his high holy ass under a bus.

1. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, Joe.

2. If 40% of the Democrats in your state say they will likely vote for your opponent in the primary, that's not terrorism, that's a display of citizens exercising their right to vote for whomever they damn well please.

3. And I think Droney might want to take a refresher course in basic math: 40% of anything does not equal and "extremely small" portion of the whole.

And finally, Droney and Holy Joe, if you are so uncomfortable with the 40% who you perceive as wierdos, maybe you're in the wrong party.

How quickly the pretense drops when the threat gets real. 'Weirdo' means: anyone who, having paid attention to something other than American Idol for the last six years, has figured out that the war in Iraq was based on deliberate fraud and deception and is the worst foreign policy blunder this nation has committed since vietnam.

Anyone who challenges our corporate kleptocracy is by definition 'a left wing weirdo'.

Lieberman is finished.
