C&L Vid of Bush asking blind reporter if he's keeping his shades on

Wonkette was the first to post it today:

Video-WMP

Video-QT

Today, at a presser, this exchange happened with Peter Wallsten of the Los Angeles Times:

Bush: You gonna ask your question with shades on?

Wallsten: Yes...

Bush: But there's no sun out here.

Wallsten: It depends on your perspective.

Bush: Touché.

Wallsten is legally blind...

We kid the President. It doesn't look like the reporter minded, but it's just another day of "Bizarro" Bush conferences.

Peter Daou: The point of this post is not that Bush intentionally taunted a blind man, but that his insistence on clowning with the press is undignified and highly inappropriate--Bush to a man in a wheelchair: "You look mighty comfortable"...read on

6. What on Earth did he say
in those first couple of sentences? That was more garbled than usual.

7. I don't see this as "offensive"
but I see it as a gross absence of professionalism. Do that shit when the cameras are off and you're in an informal setting. But the guy is trying to do his job, and you're supposed to be the most responsible person in the country, can you be a little serious once in a while?

8. It's not offensive because he didn't know the man was blind...
...it's unprofessional because Bush's predilection toward giving people "nicknames"...also known as "making them his bitch"...is the same kind of behavior he showed with this man.

He didn't ask him about the shades because he knew he was blind.

He asked him about the shades because he was wearing them in the presence of the King.

Arrogant, smug, cowardly, Oedipal, substance-abusing, A.W.O.L. worthless Frat Boy bike-riding Fuckstick-In-Chief.

9. exactly right
Even if the shades were just a choice, imagine a world leader challenging Condi or Cheney to their face about their clothing choices during a public event...

Unimaginable.
