Bush: Guantanamo's future up to Supreme Court
Bush: Guantanamo's future up to Supreme Court

By Laura Parker, USA TODAY
President Bush said Wednesday that he'd like to close the U.S. military-run prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where three detainees committed suicide Saturday. He said he was awaiting a Supreme Court decision about how terrorism suspects there could be tried.

"I'd like to close Guantanamo, but I also recognize that we're holding some people there that are darn dangerous and that we better have a plan to deal with them in our courts," Bush said at a news conference in the White House Rose Garden.

1. The gall is incredible.
Bush happily eviscerates legislation with his 'signing statements,' destroys court jurisdiction with offshore prison and torture camps, but suddenly gets all wistful and helpless about Guantanamo? Since when has the Supreme Court (the one that invented his presidency, remember), been anything more than a rubber stamp for neocon policies?

Bush waiting for the Supreme Court is like the ocean waiting for Canute.
