We "Netroots" always urged to hang with Party...but there's Lieberman...

Remember "ABB" in the 2004 Campaign. And, remember when Schumer said during the Senate hearings on Roberts nomination to a reporter (aking Schumer's opinion about the feelings of Internet Activists who opposed Roberts) and Schumer said: "when they push, we push back." :eyes: I posted Schumer's comment here on DU and other DU'ers heard him say that, too, and were disappointed. I now see that Schumer was laying down the "gauntlet" we netroots would have to fight to get across way back then. We should have known that Lieberman's threat of "bolting" and "Take Back America's" banning of Code Pink would be part of a concerted effort by the entrenched powers to "Push Back," or perhaps "Shut Out."

Given Schumer's comments about Lieberman being able to go "Indy" and still get Dem Party support..well..I have to agree with Jane's comments at "Firedoglake" on this:

“The Cut-And-Run 2006 Campaign” — Game On?
By Jane Hamsher @ 2:02 pm

The AP is reporting that Lieberman is weighing his options and considering whether to begin a signature campaign to get himself on the November ballot as an Independent. We always knew he had no problem planting a knife firmly in the back of the Democratic party; giving it a little twist must seem like no big deal.

The more I think about the idea that all those Unity 08 pricks setting up shop to "urge" Joe Lieberman into an independent run, the more I want to smack myself on the forehead and say "how did I miss that." I don’t know that they’ll actually do it, but the framework is certainly in place if the need arises. It’s no coincidence that it happening along side the rising power of the Netroots. When the DLC types get targeted for fucking up the party and standing for nothing more than fattening their own larders, they’ve got to have some place to jump. Now we know where that is.

1. There were Dems who supported Roberts who escape notice -
but, any DLC Dem gets attacked, no matter what. Listen, I'm no fan of centrist politics, but, I'm not going to pretend that only one side has all the flaws.

2. The issue is that Lieberman can threaten to leave the party and Schumer
is supportive of this. The issue is that Schumer dismissed the Dem Netroots who worked their butt's off for ABB Kerry by saying: "When they Push, We Push Back." In otherwords Schumer could have said: "We understand that there are activists who oppose Judge Roberts but the Party has come to the conclusion that he's qualified and we will leave it up to the vote to decide." Instead Schumer's comments were antagonistic, and dismissive of the Netroots that they need to be on the ground knocking on doors, signing up new Dem voters and donating those "small donations" that will build our party which is now a "FAILED PARTY" in election after election.

I don't think you even read my post. You just assumed it was anti-DLC and left a comment that didn't address the issue.

5. I read your post - and one of the problems IS the rhetoric you use, too.
I don't like Schumer's rhetoric and I don't think yours is appropriate, either.

Your little gratuitous barbs directed at Kerry are ACCEPTABLE?

Anyone who can say that Kerry was just ABB has NO UNDERSTANDING OR KNOWLEDGE of what has gone on in this country for the last 35 years, and WHO EXACTLY has done more to investigate and expose government corruption. YOU hurt the dialogue when you TAINT that person.

Rhetoric on the left can be just as hurtful to the Democratic party as rhetoric from the centrists. And BOTH can be absurdly ignorant of actual history when it suits them.

7. Then try some restraint in your rhetoric if you demand it from the other
side.

3. Maybe we need to take the party back
I hope Lamont wins in CT in August AND November. That is one way we can make sure that those who are opposed to grass roots organizing will know we mean business.

4. Maybe?
We DEFINITELY need to take out Party back... what's left of it.

I agree about it being a statement about the grassroots organizers' committment. Great point!
