don't need to do no fack cheken ifin its a fine christian conservative making such a statement. No way he'd lie to me.

I recall when the swift boat book of lies came out, bob novak on the old crossfire show said it was "well-researched." A couple of days later in my favorite watering hole one of the conservative drones was blathering on about kerry and mentioned the book. He said it was "well-researched."

6. Alot of people repeat media lies instead of thinking or checking the facts

Look at the battles here at DU amongst the left, even - - the media drives almost EVERY aspect of the debate and almost always spin it to advance the WH's preferred storyline. It can no longer be seen as an honest broker.

More Dems and Progressives need to adopt this tactic. For the longest time now, we've assumed that we're in a "debate" with the right wing. We're not. We're in an argument that sometimes takes on the characteristics of trial by combat.

Conservatives are liars, but we treat them as though they're simply misinformed and that in our 30-second sound bite, we can change their minds.

Kick 'em in the teeth and call them liars to their face -- it's the only way to "debate" these people.

To a neutral observer is looks like Sirota is 'debating' with personal attacks.

Sirota's response that Stossel is 'changing the subject' does not seem solid either. Nor to the windshield washer.

It is not about Stossel lying or being misinformed, it is about the mass of TV viewers and which side they are going to take from the exchange, although in this case it was two against one, with the moderator/host confirming what Stossel said.

I just think a "Sorry, but that's true" comes across as more solid than a quick "you are" which sounds kinda childish and mean spirited.

Absolutely smarmy (not to mention disingenuous) by Stossel. He didn't suddenly "realize" who Sirota is; he knew going in who Sirota is, and what Sirota has written about him. You don't claw your way to the top of the shit pile that Stossel sits on by not keeping encyclopedic track of everyone who has ever slighted you, either in reality or in your own imagination.

Sirota was absolutely right to stick by what he had posted about Stossel. Stossel clearly checks his Amazon page with an obsessiveness bordering on paranoia. He's right to do so, of course, because being a fraud isn't a very secure position.
