Murtha discusses Karl Rove's "Big, Fat, Air-Conditioned Backside"

Murtha on Rove: ‘He’s Sitting in His Air-Conditioned Office on His Big, Fat Backside, Saying Stay the Course’

Karl Rove attacked Rep. John Murtha during a speech last week in New Hampshire. Rove described Murtha’s Iraq plan as “cutting and running,” and suggested that the 37-year Marine combat veteran would “be with you at the first shots” but not “for the last, tough battles.”

Murtha defended himself this morning on Meet the Press:

Watch it:

Full transcript below:

ROVE (TAPE): Like too many Democrats, it strikes me they are ready to give the green light to go to war, but when it gets tough and when it gets difficult, they fall back on that party’s old pattern of cutting and running. They may be with you at the first shots, but they are not going to be there for the last, tough battles. They are wrong and profoundly wrong in their approach.

RUSSERT: Cutting and running.

MURTHA: He’s in New Hampshire. He’s making a political speech. He’s sitting in his air-conditioned office on his big, fat backside, saying stay the course. That’s not a plan. I don’t know what his military experience is, but that’s a political statement. This is a policy difference between me and the White House. I disagree completely with what he’s saying.

Now, let’s give you an example. When we went to Beirut, I said to President Reagan, get out. The other day we were doing a debate and they said, Beirut was a different situation, we cut and run. We didn’t cut and run. President Reagan made the decision to change direction because he knew he couldn’t win it. Even in Somalia, President Clinton made the decision, “we have to change direction.” Even with tax cuts, when we had a tax cut, under Reagan we then had an increase.

We need to change directions. We can’t win a war like this. This guy is sitting back there criticizing — political criticism, getting paid by the public taxpayer, and he’s saying to us, “We’re winning this war and they’re running”? We’ve got to change direction. You can’t sit there in the air-conditioned office and tell troops carrying 70 pounds on their backs inside these armored vessels hit with IEDs every day, seeing their friends blown up, their buddies blown up, and he says stay the course? Easy to say that from Washington, DC.

2. Rove can't get up early enough to put one over on John Murtha.
We don't need a fortune cookie to see who'll get into heaven here.

3. He is a great American
And it pains me to see that lying mealy-mouthed Rove dare to question his patriotism and stamina.

It needed to be said.

These creeps sitting on their fat asses spending more time trying to get out of being indicted, then working for the average U.S. Taxpayer.

These people aren't looking out for our troops. They are using them as political pawns.

These people aren't looking out for me either. They are just lining their own pockets as they fleece our nation.

Thanks Mr. Murtha. We need more Democrats like you, sir.

on edit: spelling

7. "Stay the Course" of what?
The way the underground news tells it there is nothing but chaos in Iraq. Bodies are lined up at the morgues to be identified that have had their eyes bore out with drills, bullets in back of head, green wraps around necks where they have been stangled, headless bodies.

The so called government has no control, Iraqi cops and military are able to kill and torture those that they think are the enemy (no courts to decide), definitely civil war and our troops are right in the middle not knowing who to shoot since the enemy is called the "insurgents" (could be anyone) yet they are to patrol the streets and be target practice for the "insurgents".

9. To Rove
these men and woman fighting in Iraq are "just numbers". In fact, worse than that, these men and woman putting their lives at risk every day in ways Rove could never dream of are not only "numbers", but voters to be disenfranchised via "Do Not Forward" mail scams. And when will the LibrulMedia run THAT story? (tick, tock, tick, tock)

8. I find it very odd that they go after so many who were in a real war.
And the other odd thing is their base seems to be with them. It just does not ring true with me. I keep thinking I have missed something. Why would any one vote for these cowards when they seem to like war so much.Makes one think of the Bible thumper yelling about sin as they dig into in the back room.

I can imagine some people running him outta town when the truth is made more public.

17. Lot of Truth to that and look who Bush puts in to run things
They are all the same type. It is why you see so many crooks as they know not one thing will be done if they steal from the gov. Plus they seem to go with this CEO style of how to run a gov. as none seem to see it as a service of the people but just a way to make money for a few. Not that making money off tax payers has not always been around but right now you get it full force and Congress backs it up. Like the 20's or 188o's

on Olbermann the other night - his reaction was to say we need Murtha in the Oval Office, full time, ASAP.

No one can be confused by his statements. Are our "do no harm" Dems on the Hill taking any lessons from this true patriot?
