DU Newbies: Stop here. A short lesson.
Edited on Sun Jun-18-06 06:39 PM by kansasblue
Do you think the 2000 and 2004 election was tainted? Let's look at 2002 first.

2002

"An arrow in the Democrats’ quiver is the simple matter of history. The president’s party in Congress almost always loses ground in midterm elections, an average of 25 seats in the House and four seats in the Senate in midterm voting since the end of World War II."
In 2002, in the Senate, the Republicans had 19 seats up for reelection and the Democrats had 14.

What did the Exit polls project?

Due to problems at Voter News Service, exit polls were not available for the 2002 election.
ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Voter News Service, a vote-counting group used by major news organizations, cited dissatisfaction with its exit poll analysis Tuesday and said it would not release any "national surveys of voter attitudes" on election night.

1. It a mounumental waste of time to commiserate the past.
Its over, and no matter how much anyone talks about it or how many links are posted it is not going to change what has happened.

How much time is spent here at the DU whining about these two elections? I have been reading this very same post for years right here on this blog. Time invested on this subject could certainly be put to better use.

Don't you think?

2. The loss of the Republic to a tyrant with imperial ambitions is not
commiserating the past, particularly when we see the GOP still engaged in the same tactics of scrubbing legitimate voters from the rolls just in time for the November elections.

If people don't care about the Constitution and the Republic, then perhaps they deserve neither!

3. No, I don't think!
Until things are straightened out, the next election will be stolen. Why should Americans move on without trying to make elections honest? What subject do you want to invest your time in here on DU?

It will never be over to me.

4. Oh like maybe
Ignore it and it will be better next time?

The only way to stop it from happening again is for people to BELIEVE it happened and that something needs to be done.

5. I very much disagree with you!
If people are unaware of the problem it will never get fixed. It's directed at newbies. Is that your response to Robert F Kennedy Jr and the Rolling Stone?

Understanding the problem is paramount.

(You're out of my class! :-) )

6. "Reading the very same post for years..."
yet you didn't feel compelled to become a member until 1 June 2006?

10. You guys are missing the point entirely
Talking about it for years isn't doing anything about it.

The 2000 election was taken away from Gore and you talked about it.

What hapened?

2004!

Understand?

Yes. Its true. I have been checking in almost daily for years, but never felt compeled to join until there was a Dixie Chicks post a while back. Oddly enough, but the time I got my password I could not find the original post that prompted me to register.

16. I have learned from the past and put it behind me.
Also, I have resumes at Diebold for a programming position.

Wish me luck

7. This isn't just about the past. It is happening now, and will happen....
again, and again, and again, unless election and campaign finance reform takes place. It's not a matter of a little spilled milk. This is a spigot that needs to be turned off.
Sure some people do just whine, but there are many people who are actively seeking to put the system back on track.
If it were not for many of the people here, and on other progressive sites, there would be no chance of reform. There has to be an investigation. The only way to get one, is to push, prod, insist, and expose the problems, over and over again until someone listens. And people are beginning to listen. I know people who thought I was nuts when I came in the day after the election, steaming about how they did it again, only differently. These same people are now believers, and they tell two people, and they tell two people, and so on.
Welcome to DU, and may I suggest you spend some time each day in the Election Reform forum. Just follow some of the links, and read. You won't find any whiners there, just a bunch of people dedicated to fixing the system and getting our country back.

9. I agree nothing will change, but
if we keep cramming Diebold, election reform and accountability down our reopresenttives throats it might make a diffeence. We need people like Busby to stand up and fight for us, and the only that will happen is to keep it on the front burner. Welcome to DU! :hi:

14. Sweet pea? You're the one who needs to accept the past.
Bush is done. I'm sorry that this is so obviously difficult for you to accept, but he is. Either find a way to deal with it, and the ruin your kind helped bring to the globe by supporting him, or, I don't know, kill yourself? Stop wasting the space on this board, either way, please. You're the one who's not helping.

8. C'Mon Bush supporters...
Bush and his "people" stole the elections. Get over it. Move on.
