Former CT Dem. Party Chair & CT Senate Majority Leader
George Jepsen Endorses Ned Lamont!

http://nedlamont.com/blog/376/former-ct-dem-party-chair-senate-majority-leader-george-jepsen-endorses-ned

This is huge news folks, for many reasons (explained below), and a sign that prominent members of the CT Democratic family are rallying behind Ned’s campaign. We’ve always had the overwhelming grassroots edge, it’s tremendous to see prominent establishment figures joining the movement. George Jepsen, the immediate past chairman of the Connecticut Democratic Party and the former state Senate majority leader, is set to endorse Ned at 2 P.M. today on the North steps of the State Capitol in Hartford.

Aside from establishment support, another reason Jepsen’s endorsement is a big deal is because he deftly disects many of Senator Lieberman’s talking points about the race’s landscape. First, it’s not just about the war.

“It begins with the war, but is not limited to the war,” Jepson said. “I sincerely like Joe Lieberman. But I disagree profoundly with his unyielding support for George Bush’s war in Iraq, his embrace of the so-called ‘culture of life’ in overriding the rights of Terry Schiavo, his failure to be an advocate for civil rights issues, his support for school vouchers, his being the only New England Senator to vote to allow the federal government to put a natural gas pipeline in Long Island Sound.”

Second, from the perspective of the former Democratic Party Chair, electing Ned on August 8 helps the ticket from top to bottom.

Lamont’s presence on the ticket will help all Democrats, “because we will be speaking in one voice,” added Jepson.

Finally, Senator Lieberman’s backers have been angrily running around claiming that our supporters are only motivated by disdain for the senator. Unfortunately for that specific talking point, Jepsen had nothing but positive things to say about Joe during his last presidential bid. This isn’t just about defeating Senator Lieberman, it’s about the fact that there is a better option for Democrats in Connecticut on August 8.

Wonder if current CT Dem Party Chair is pooping in her pants.
Jepsen will be a big help to Lamont in winning the Dem Primary and consolidating Dem support after the primary.

4. Lieberman must be having another fit of petulance right now
His aides are probably glad he's not on Colin McEnroe's radio show right now.

8. Larkspur, this is great news. What are your local polls telling us about
Ned vs Joe?

In my mind, this has huge national implications for the party and our cadre of Vichy Dems.

9. The recent Quinnipiac poll still has Joe leading
55-40 among likely Dem voters, but the Q-poll guy said that Ned had gone up 20 pts in 1 month and he had never seen anything like that before especially from a guy with low recognition rating. Ned's recognition rating at the beginning of May when the last Q-poll was taken was 7%, now it's 24%, so he still has room to grow.

George Jepsen's endorsement should help Lamont improve on that name recognition and win the primary.

10. You bring us good tidings, larkspur. Thank you. Very encouraging for
Lamont fans in far-flung locales.

Some heavy-duty influentials moving toward Ned Lamont in this one.

I think he's the winning horse in the race.

11. Every story like this should be printed out and blast faxed to each and
every Dem who wants to act like a Republican. They get elected, become incumbents with a special sense that they are not vulnerable and they lose their way. Pandering to the Big Business interests, theocrats and TV pundits at the expense of their voters, supporters and constituents.

They should be reminded, daily, from multiple sources - (1)exactly who it is that sent them to Washington, and (2)who it is that will send someone else in their place once they forget point (1)
