yet another reason to BRING OUR TROOPS HOME NOW!!!
today's news carries the story of a man in florida who beheaded his wife and stabbed his son to death. according to the reports, he is a disabled veteran. the reason I point this out is to reiterate yet one more extremely cogent reason for bringing our troops home NOW, one which is barely mentioned (and yes, this is from a previous post here on DU, in response to someone suggesting that we send in still MORE troops:

quite apart from the devastation the various governments of the US(legally elected or otherwise) have caused, I will give one very cogent reason for not only NOT sending in more troops, but for bringing them home immediately, one that hasn't even been mentioned here. I am sick to death, and sick at heart, at having to deal with the devastation of our service members and their families--the ones coming back with PTSD and/or horrific injuries, the ones coming back with dead souls, the ones whose exposure to DU is going to cause them (and their offspring) lifetimes of misery-- the ones who are going to kill themselves, or their families, or complete strangers when they finally crack. the families of the ones who didn't come back, and who won't be coming back, thanks to the sort of thinking being espoused. YOU aren't the one dealing with these people, I AM--and thousands like me, and quite frankly, after 30 years, I am TIRED. I don't want to HAVE to do this anymore, but I will keep on, because we have to.

so those who comfortably sit there and suggest that my, and others' jobs, get even harder, I find this absolutely appalling. I suugest, for whoever does this--that you spend time volunteering at a VA hospital, and see exactly what it is that you are proposing. One of us will probably end up seeing you then.

it makes me heartsick to see that this is going to happen more and more--there are going to be so many more dead and broken bodies, hearts and souls and families, and less and less help for them, courtesy of those wonderful chickenhawk "support the troop" hypocrites.

1. Thank you for the work that you do...
I think the punishment for the crimes committed against this nation by the administration is for them to be sentenced to work in the military hospitals caring for our wounded soldiers......

They should be stripped of any and all profit they made while they were in office...."War Profiteering"....and the Repugs are guilty....

You are right...the aftermath of the war...the soldiers lives and their families lives are left in ruins while the likes of the * cabal sits back enjoying the millions they stole....

Yes....let's bring them home....The country known as Iraq has survived hundreds of years.....it will survive hundreds more without us being there..

8. thank you!! I had hoped, even after gulf 1, that we wouldn't ever have to
go through this again--but here we are, and I am afraid we have only seen the beginnings of the horrors that are going to be happening as more and more of our people come home, often to no help at all.

2. Are the US GI's really equipped to fight in a jihad?
This whole mess gets worse all the time.

4. That's a great question....
In my opinion...the insurgents want to die for their cause they don't care about surviving....this put's our soldiers at a huge disadvantage fighting an enemy like this....A jihad will last as long as the insurgents want it to last for years and years and years...

Do you think if we would not have withdrawn from Vietnam that we would have stayed additional years beyond the 15 years we were there.....I think we would have......this could be worse if we don't get control of Congress....because the Repugs will not withdraw....

6. Enemy? Not my enemy.
Just because Bush's war profiteers destroyed their country makes them my enemy? by the way we got out of Vietnam because we lost. ENDLESS WAR FOR ENDLESS PROFITS

10. Indeed we did get out of Vietnam because we lost......we also
got out because the American people were tired of sacrificing soldiers for a bullshit war...

If someone is shooting at you...you are going to shoot back....our soldiers shouldn't be there.....that is the bottom line...

3. It was a Canadian newspaper that noted that the mass murders here
were done by ex-vets. The guy in the tower in Texas. The DC sniper. Etc. And then there are all those Vietnam vets that still live in camps and can't bear being in a normal world. But on the other side of the coin - they probably won't live very long because of their exposure to depleted uranium.

What a wonderful gov't we have isn't it.

5. years ago, there was a book "waiting for an army to die" that basically
said that the govt was just going to sit around and do nothing until all the people died of their exposure to agent orange. the same thing is happening with DU--those bastards are going to sit on the funds, turn their backs, and wait for our service members to DIE.

There isn't a punishment harsh enough to mete out to these cowards, these indifferent bastards, for the horrors they have created, and are continuing.

May the deities grant them everything they deserve.

12. I second that. They're working hard to be on the same list as Hitler,
Stalin, Idi Amin and others like that.

9. and thank you!! I just wish there were more that could be done-- I never
wanted to see other families go through what we did (and in many cases, still are, as the horrors of this war are impacting the 'nam vets as well)

11. I was married to a vet with PTSD for 10 years and
it was so hard to deal with it. He refused any help. This from a man that would lose it just changing a light bulb. In the end he became violent and I had to leave.

My daughter, age 27, suffers from PTSD (from two brutal attacks in her teens) and it is almost unbearable to deal with at times.

It enrages me to know how many more are and will be suffering due to corporate greed and *'s ego.

May the architects of it rot in their own private hells.

13. so sorry to hear how you and your family suffered
but like you said there will be many more of our finest coming back with symptoms of PTSD, it messes a person up for life. All the more reason to bring these soldiers home.

14. The suffering endured by the one with it and
the suffering of those that love them will be the legacy of the * admin!
More broken families, just what the neocons ordered. Inevitable.

I've seen karma in action, but have no pity for what they will reap someday.

Thank you for the kind words alyce.
