Dean sounds like they ARE spending more on targeted races.
Edited on Mon Jun-19-06 09:07 PM by madfloridian
In this CNN transcript of the Blitzer interview today, it sounds that way to me. Like they are putting more resources in some areas while still doing the 50 state rebuilding. Am I reading the transcript correctly?

That is what DCCC and DSCC have been so critical of him for, not having enough cash on hand. Not griping about amount raised, but how much in the bank. This sounds like they are putting more resources where they might be needed and not getting credit for that. If this is true, he is more than doing what he should be doing.

"We have been making investments all along in strengthening this party everywhere. We are -- we have made the decision to be involved in 40 House races, 10 senatorial races, governor's races, state legislative races. We are going to be in seven states. We have got a lot of responsibility. We started investing very, very early. That's why our balance sheet doesn't look as good as the Republicans' did.

But the only way they are going to -- going to beat us is if we beat ourselves. And we are not going to do that. We are aggressive. We are going to tough. And we are going to be -- in terms of defense, we are going to be tough, just as tough as the Republicans, but we are going to be much smarter than the Republicans, in terms of protecting our troops with adequate armed -- armor, with adequate equipment.

You won't see Democrats simply doing photo-ops in Baghdad. You will see us really supporting our troops and our veterans when they come home.

BLITZER: Governor Dean, thanks very much for joining us."

1. Absolutely. That's the way I heard it too.
And I think it's exactly what he should be doing -- though he may not be putting all the funds in the same places as Emmanuel. I don't know how he manages to deal with all these shills and cowards, but he's remarkable, isn't he?

2. I would imagine the other party leaders are aware of it.
Wouldn't you think so? When I heard him say this, I thought all the fuss about this is just over nothing at all.

I am reading the book "Howard Dean: The Citizens' Guide to the Man Who Would be President". What an amazing picture it presents of him, written by a group of reporters who knew him.

There is no way to categorize him at all. When people accuse him of not handling money properly and such stuff as that, I think they forget he was a governor for 11 years.

This is an amazing book, and I wish I had read it sooner. Yes, he is remarkable, he really is. Have you read that book?

Nothing pandering about it either, just the unvarnished truth. That day Snelling died, and he had to take over as governor was worth the whole book in itself.

7. It is not a book that tries to paint a good picture of him..
but it ends up doing so after all is said.

3. Dean is No Fool
But he would be if the same resources into trying to oust and incumbent in Utah as supporting an open race in Missouri.

4. The amount given to various states differs.
That much I know. I have heard him say before that they will be ready to help in some races, aside from the money to build up the party in the states.

This was sounding like that for sure, the transcript.
