Al Gore is a genius!
This is my take on Al Gore today. He's getting himself prepared to be the next president of the United States. Look at all the publicity he's garnering on the talk shows. His movie and book "Inconvenient Truth" are paving the way to his re-introduction to the general public. And the whackos are trying to swiftboat him now. He's getting all the bullshit from the right out of the way now, sort of defusing the idiots before the 2008 election. His emphatic non-denials about a run for Pres. are just that, non-denials. Come the Democratic Convention in Aug. 2008, when the dems can't make up thier mind between a weak DLC candidate or weak progressive candidate, Al Gore will come to the rescue and be the dark horse candidate for president. After the convention, with just 3 months left till the election, he eliminates several months of arduous and expensive campaigning nonesense. And he will win in a landslide. He is truly a genius. So thats my story and I'm sticking to it. :bounce:

1. It's pure timing.
I totally agree.

He's using his own brain, too. He's a very, very smart man.

3. Oh - that implies he isn't serious about global warming! I think his
record shows that he is very serious.

I'm sure a part of him would love to be President. Afterall he was a politician for decades. But he was also a journalist and an environmentalist.

5. He has the intellect that no republican does
Plus he's a nice guy. Republicans are not known for being nice. They are a little too uppity for that.

7. I like that story.
And I don't think it implies that he is not serious about global warming. I will hold out hope that Gore will be our candidate in 2008.

10. It really doesn't imply that. It implies that his timing and
intelligence are impeccable.

8. I think it's both
I think he has a very sincere motive in producing the movie (we just saw it this evening). He really DOES want to save our Earth.

I also think it's some of the best propoganda for a "non"-candidate I've ever seen.

I lean towards Gore in '08 (although I'm reticent about Tipper - PMRC and all). He's the ONLY democrat who CAN run who HAS ACTUALLY WON the presidency!

Isn't it beautiful to watch? Isn't his brain such a turn-on? I am in platonic lust; if that's possible.

12. Well, it's a nice story, and why not enjoy it! Of course, by this measure

it could be said that every hollywood actor or author that recently wrote a book is a genius preparing themselves to be the next President.

Gore is promoting his movie/book/cause, and would be doing so whether or not he was planning on running for President again. Genius? Sure, why not. OTOH, he is obviously highly motivated by the topic of his film/book, and in all probability contractually required to promote said film/book, and is taking the obligatory publicity tour.

That's my story and I don't even have to stick to it.

13. I sure hope that's the case!
I think his new movie and generally good press he's over all gotten certianly clears a path for him to take if he wants it at this point, but it's hard to say if he's actually going down it or not yet, still.

Still, my dream ticket for 2008 is Gore/Obama.
Perfectly balanced and still progressive.

Doesn't say much for his chances of beating a real candidate. Or is the 'genius' another new Al Gore.

16. Then you accept that it was a fair fight?
First, it wasn't a fight between Bush and Gore, but Gore versus a corrupt Republican team with a media that acted as Bush cheerleaders - some like Candy Crowley quite literally. Then there was cheating.

18. The real shame about
being so convinced that Gore really intends to run/can be persuaded to run is that other potential candidates are being ignored, and more importantly since we still have this year's election to go through, that energy isn't being focused on getting Democrats elected across the country.

20. I believe if the Democrats running across the country in 2006 were smart,
they would be using the draft (NASCAR term) or momentum created by "An Inconvenient Truth" to bolster their own campaigns. I believe as Al does that this is a moral issue, and if the Republicans continue to fight against the facts, they do so at their own real and political peril. This leaves a perfect opening for Democratic Party Candidates in 2006.

If those other potential candidates for 2008 do not want to be ignored, they need to cover Al's back and get in front of the people as leaders should, on this issue.

I agree with the O.P. that Al Gore is a genius, however I am every bit as much impressed with his character, integrity and real concern for the people as his intelligence. I believe Al's primary motivation in making this movie is sincere in that, he is trying to save the world.
