Bush: Strongly Approve vs. Strongly Disapprove - have you seen these ###s
The latest Rasmussen poll shows Bush at 39% approval rating, which was expected with the killing of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

But I took a closer look at these numbers and found something extremely interesting.
Bush's approval rating is based on a combination of both the STRONGLY & SOMEWHAT Approve (same with disapprove) - which means even if you think Bush is doing an ok job for the most part - you're lumped in there with the 'Bush is the second coming of Christ and can do no wrong in my eyes' group.

But here is a breakdown of his numbers separating out the 'STRONGLY' from the 'SOMEWHAT'

Strongly Approve - 18%
Somewhat Approve - 21%
Strongly Disapprove - 43%
Somewhat Disapprove - 16%

So look at this numbers (you can see them on the top right hand corner of this link. When it comes to the decisive people on Bush (Strongly know what they want), the Strongly Disapprove outnumber the Strongly Approve almost 2.5 to 1. That means for every, devout Bush-loving war-supporting, chickhawk with faded yellow "Support our Troop" magnets covering the back of their gas-guzzling SUVs there are 2.5 of us out there opposing them.

Think about that!

Thanks for posting this, LynneSin. Virtually all the polls that offer similar choices for approval/disapproval get bundled that way when reported by the MSM, I've noticed. I'm not sure how long it's been happening, but I suspect it's been for the Chimpster's entire reign of terror. Too bad it doesn't condense into a good soundbite!

oops, grammer edit!

2. Rasmussen is one of those shady polls
that has suspect sampling and weighting and always favors the GOP.

These numbers are TERRIBLE for that poll. No wonder the GOP is grandstanding with a minimum wage hike offer that will undoubtedly fail as soon as they figure out a way to make it unpalatable to Democrats, like putting a 2 year or so lead time on it.

5. You're right - anything by Rasmussen should be suspect
However I did find it interesting with the Strongly vs. the Somewhats.

To me the "SOMEWHATS" are fence-sitters, even the ones that "Somewhat" support Bush. THey are the people who really don't get involved that much with politics and actually believe what is shown on MSM because they have no reason to not believe it since the internet really is just used for email, sports scores and downloading porn.

We need to use our 43% to move this 39% (Both somewhats & the undecideds) into our camp.

6. "Somewhat Approve/Disapprove" ?
Shouldn't those % be lumped with the "Undecideds" ?

Which would then read:

Approve - 18%
Disapprove - 43%
Undecided, Not Sure, Don't care enough to feel "Strongly" - 37%

7. Exactly
As I posted in a reply above here - these are people who have computers, use the internet but probably not for anything more than Email, Gaming, Sports Scores, Movietimes and Porn&Music downloads. They turn on the evening news and they believe what they see because they have no reason NOT to believe. Hell how can Fox be deceiving us when they bring us such great televsion like American Idol, The Simpsons, etc. etc?

So their stance as "Somewhats" probably means that perhaps the day they were survived something happened that mildly affected them enough to say Bush may or may not be doing an ok job. But like the wind they can suddenly change directions - these are our targets!

9. There's that 18% again!
That's Cheney's approval number, and I've contended that that's the absolute rockbottom unsalvageable wingnut percentage. Anyone who still approves of Dick AT ALL is part of the basest base, and apparently Bush has strong support only among that gang.
