Randi Rhodes: Caller calls in complaing about FOX News, is ridiculed!?!
Why does Randi do this to so many of her callers? Randi is in the middle of one of her rants about how Fox news are a bunch of bastards, a woman caller calls in and says that FOX News has their desk set up so that the bimbo newscaster whose knees (because the desk is low) are above the desk is wearing a short skirt and that male viewers in her household watch the show (upsetting the caller) hoping for a "Sharon Stone Moment""

Randi, in all her wisdom, calls the caller insane and after berating her a few more times, hangs up on her.

Seems like Randi does this at least three or four times during a show and it's irritating as hell. She chews up a callers that are slam dunks for humor/biting commentary against something conservative. It's just sad.

Randi goes on to make fun of Candy Crowley's fatness. "I mean, can you imagine lifting a roll and getting a whiff?"

:puke:

1. Some broadcasters feel the need to be entertaining, I guess.
Probably why she has been so successful.

Randi's humor against our enemies is the last worry I have as far as media goes.

File under: "Funny cuz its true."

2. The exaggerated disgust for a "fat chick" ....
... comes out of Rhodes' ample store of insecurity and self-loathing.

Pretty obvious. And not particularly funny/true.

3. So why am I laughing so hard? Sure, she is insecure-so what?
Show me someone who is not, in one way or another.

You KNOW she is insecure b/c she discusses it- she puts her own looks down all the time.

I find her self depriciating humor as well as her insults hilarous- she's a female Harry Truman, Rodney Dangerfield & Don Rickles combined!!!

Lighten up...

8. the problem is she gives Dems a black eye.
No offense meant to those who enjoy her, but I don't anymore.

We are supposed to be the party of fairness and compassion, and she can get just as hateful and unfair as some RWingers. I tried again today and lasted maybe 10 minutes. What I particularly dislike is how she constantly assigns motives to what every public figure is doing, and states it as fact. Very Limbaughian.

12. When you can show me the recent elections won by the "nice guy"appraoch...
...then you may have a point.

If you want nice, polite, "Liberals" with who speak in lispy, timid, soft voices, there is always NPR.

Meanwhile, the Common Joe has Randi on their side.

23. no, that would be going to the other extreme.
Dems are not timid and don't need timid radio hosts. Just someone who lets callers talk and sticks to facts.

26. Are you sure you arent saying not to say anything that can't be absolutely
proven in a court of law after 3 years of research? How on earth do you expect anyone to meet your standards, ginny?

10. Yes, Rhodes is an attractive woman ....
...who constantly puts down her own looks, clearly thinks she's a hag, and revels in her disgust at another woman's fatness like a dog rolling in shit. You're right: that's HILARIOUS. To some men, maybe. Not to many women.

11. Sure thing, Dr. Freud.
If women dont find her funny, then why do they listen & call her show everyday? Your assertion is false.

While you stew in your own juices over PC gone nuts, I'll have some laughs and get informed with my Air America friends.

13. I don't think most guys go for that "humor" either. I know I don't.
I love listening to Frankin and it always jarrs me when Randi comes on. Maybe not immediately but sometime during the show I'm just like...Why did you need to make that mean-spirited comment to a caller, Rhandi?

Don't we have enough people to mock just sticking to conservatives?

It's not that I don't like Rhandi- I would love to listen to Frankin and her back to back if I could get over her mean-spiritedness or, hopefully, she would cut it out. It may be too much to have her drop the faux titilating references to her large breasts, etc. Even in comedy I'd like to the Air America could get some better/more political jokes from a personality on air.

How dare she be so insensitive about fat, rich Republicans who lie on TV everyday!!!

When did calling rich, buffet frequenting Republicans "fat" become exceptable? WHO started this dangerous, destructive trend?!?!?!?!

Randi just BLEW 2008 with this- next thing you know she will be calling people who are factually challenged- "liars"- OHHH the HORRORS!!!!

The noive, I tells ya!!!!

15. She's been covering the topic "News mixed with porn" for a 1/2 hour...
...before I turned her off. Finally decided to do her show nude, according to her program. After that, after months of this stuff I don't think she needs to worry about a career in politics...

17. My advice is to take some No-Doz and switch it to NPR.
Edited on Tue Jun-20-06 05:33 PM by Dr Fate
Perhaps they are doing an exciting segment on the dying tradition of North Andes basket weaving. You can almost visualize the glasses sliding down the announcer's nose as he drives his hard-hitting points home.

Or you can watch the blonde bomb-shells on CNN, etc- good luck with those "facts"

Enjoy!!!

6. Sure- she just nails every single issue every time.
I forget that some people's definition of "smart" means using fancy $10 words while speaking in a soft, timid voice.

NPR sounds like your gig, not mine.

Randi talks and acts more like the swing-voters I know than any policy wonk I've ever seen.

16. Whatever. Randi is still not very smart
and she doesn't comes across as a very good advocate when she is invited to debates.
She may be fun to listen to (in doses), and she is right most of the time. Still, she is not my favorite left-of-center radio personality.

4. Randi is hard to listen to...
She's mean to her listeners sometimes.

I don't know why Air America can't be as good as the Daily Show, Bill Mahr or even SNL.
Here, I went on a bit of a tirade about it a while back:

9. I think she gets upset at people spreading things she feels...
...are inaccurate, even in support of her general side. I don't listen very much at all, but I've heard what I think you're talking about. I guess that shows more integrity than the right-wing hosts, but I don't know why she has to go off on them if it's a simple misconception or rumor or something against the Republicans.

I used to listen to her every day but she started to wear on my nerves with that crap. She need to let her callers talk. She talks for several hours, she should at least let FRIENDLY callers make a point before she starts screeching about something.
I also got tired of her repeating the same think over and over for 3 hours. We get the idea Randi move on to something else.

Eh...at least I still have Mike Malloy and Thom Hartmann.

and she chewed him a new one. "they have to be re-elected, tailor their constituency" or some such rot.

yeah, right, tailor your message to be repug-lite. that'll work. it worked LAST TIME.

wellstone voted against the war and he was reelected. i don't want to vote for "NICE" anymore. i want
to hear someone discuss the acts of these murderous criminals, and what they're going to do to get
them out of office and punish them!

She's an acquired taste, and as a loyal listener, I can assure you that you really have to love Randi and know her and her show or else you're going to be pissed off by her style.

But luckily, judging by her growing success over the years, I'm not alone!

She doesn't do well with them.

Candy Crowley lost me when she came up with the "green tea moment" with Sen Kerry. For fucks sake, woman, he'd had cancer. He was drinking green tea because it was good for him, you stupid witch. It was NOT an elitist moment. I mean, even Lipton has a green tea product. How elitist could it BE!?

33. I like listening to Randi
she reminds me of one of my best friends from New York--my friend and her mother would be in each other's face and yelling with that heavy New York accent--they could be agreeing, but it still sounded like a debate. Randi is abrasive, but she also imparts information (more times than none, with emotion). She's not everyone's cup of tea.
