What is the "exit date" specified in the Kerry-Feingold amendment?
a Boston Globe article about the amendment says: "The proposal to be offered by Kerry today would require President Bush to remove nearly all US troops from Iraq by July 1, 2007. The Massachusetts Democrat's initial plan -- to remove troops by the end of 2006 -- received just six votes in the Senate last week, and the later date is intended to build support for the proposal, said April Boyd, a Kerry spokeswoman."

Kerry's website has this prominently displayed graphic:

and i just received an email from Barbara Boxer that says: "Tell your Senators you support the Kerry/Feingold/Boxer effort to redeploy U.S. troops from Iraq within the next 6 months, or sooner -- email your Senators today!"

does anyone have a link to the exact wording of the amendment? there's a world of difference and a few thousand lives between 12/31/06 and 7/01/07 ... which date is contained in the actual amendment??

1. It has been changed to 7/1/07
Because it wouldn't be possible to complete what they need to do, and get everyone out of the country safely in that time-frame. Kerry first proposed this a few months back, when 12/31/06 was nearly a year away. As time has marched on, the deadline has had to move accordingly.

3. From what I understand from the NYT
The rest of the Dems wanted Kerry to drop the deadline outright. He refused, and the best they could do was to get him to bump it six months. They called him "stubborn."

2. Kerry's website hasn't been updated to reflect the new date.
