IN BATTLE, WHAT PICTURE IS IN THE HELMETS? CHER news/pic THE BEAT GOES ON
Better Army Helmets
By BUCK WOLF

June 13, 2006 — Cher can't turn back time, but she can go to Washington to plea for better helmet lining for U.S. troops in Iraq.

The 60-year-old Oscar-winning entertainer will appear Thursday before the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces with Dr Bob Meaders, the founder of Operation Helmet, a nonprofit group that supplies helmet upgrade kits.

Cher has always been outspoken, though not especially active in politics. But she's taken to heart the plight of soldiers abroad. In recent weeks, she has donated $131,000 to Operation Helmet. And over Memorial Day weekend she made a surprise call to C-SPAN's "Washington Journal" that left TV viewers totally "Moonstruck."

The beat goes on,

the beat goes on

Drums keep pounding

A rhythm to the brain

La de da de de, la de da de da

Charleston was once the rage, uh huh

History has turned the page, uh huh

The mini skirts the current thing, uh huh

Teenybopper is our newborn king, uh huh

The beat goes on, the beat goes on

Drums keep pounding

A rhythm to the brain

La de da de de, la de da de da

The grocery store's the super mart, uh huh

Little girls still break their hearts, uh huh

And men still keep on marching off to war

Electrically they keep a baseball score

The beat goes on, the beat goes on

Drums keep pounding
A rhythm to the brain

La de da de de, la de da de da

Grandmas sit in chairs and reminisce

Boys keep chasing girls to get a kiss

The cars keep going faster all the time

Bums still cry, "Hey buddy,
have you got a dime?"

DO YOU HAVE A LOVED ONE OVERSEAS THAT NEEDS A FREE HELMET LINER?

3. Jon Stewart was talking about her C-Span call.
I didn't believe him at first. I just thought it was a coincidence.

for the next few years. TWO out of 3 people in IED blasts suffer severe head trauma, if they live at all, CNN just said!

13. Billions without bids or oversight to Halliburton, skimp on troop safety
The GOP's REAL values: Money for nuthin but the troops go without safe water, good equipment, any REAL support from the party in power.

15. Just finished reading a great book regarding the Nurses of WWII...
In it was a story of a soldier who just had major throat and neck surgery. As a result, he couldn't wear his chin strap during inspection. The inspection was being done by Patton.

Upon seeing the man without the chin strap fastened, Patton dressed him down and didn't want any of his lame explanations for being "out" of uniform.

Close by was an Army Nurse. After inspection, she promptly went right up to Patton and told the general that the reason why the soldier was "out" of uniform was due to the fact that he had suffered extreme whiplash as a result of wearing his chin strap.

Baffled by this the general wanted an explanation. The Nurse stated that when wearing the chin strap, a soldier in close proximity of a bomb blast will have, almost every time, his helmet blown off. If the chin strap is worn, they soldier will almost always suffer some form of whiplash.

The very next day General Patton issued an order that the wearing of the chin strap during combat is no longer required.

Now fast forward to today.

Most Nurses and Doctors in Iraq are seeing massive head injuries due to the nature of the IED. Which tend to explode low on the ground thus causing an upward blast. As a result the types of blasts are forcing the brain to slam against the top of the skull and the skull slamming into the helmet. At this point, they become nothing more that fancy "brain catchers".

Helmet design has come along way since the old "pot helms" but more needs to be done.

I'm against this war but I support safety for the troops so they can come home and protest against it.

Peace.
