WMDs found? Is this de ja vu all over again ??
Edited on Thu Jun-22-06 08:53 AM by kentuck
Seems I heard this same story 2 or 3 years ago? Seems I recall reading about it here on DU? Is this just my imagination? Or does anyone else remember this same story? Why are Santorum and other Republicans recycling this old story? Could it be that desperation is setting in??

1. It's certainly desperate, because it's biting them in the ass...
Even on mainstream cable news, Santorum is being treated like an idiot today. The CNN morning anchor practically mocked him openly.

4. Olberman mocked him last night, too
Saying how the story was about the traces of ancient WMD that had been destroyed by the UN years and years ago. And how Little Ricky must be hoping no one is paying attention.

6. Yeah, but you expect Olbermann to do it...
he always mocks idiot politicians. But the guy subbing for Miles O'Brien? Now, that's bad news for the GOP!

3. Have they found the flowers that they were supposed to welcome
us with? And that mushroom cloud must be behind that mountain range over there.

7. People that read Drudge and watch FOX....
will never know that anyone is disputing Little Ricky and others. They will continue from today believing that WMDs will be found. We will hear them saying this crap weeks from now.

8. Maybe "payback" for PBS's airing of "Cheney's Dark Side?"
I was scratching my head wondering why Santorum and Hoekstra would come out with such an idiot statement. How could they think that America was still as clueless about Iraq's Missing WMD as a year ago?

Watching C-Span this morning one of the Rabid Repugs called in complaining C-Span was refusing to cover the WMD Found news when Drudge and Fox and the Weekly Standard were all over it. I credit "Susan" the hostess for reading a WaPo article stating that the Defense Department made a definite statement that these were not active WMD they had been buried on the Iran/Iraq border in 1988. She read more from the article and repeated that the Defense Dept. had declared that these were not WMD. I thought it was interesting for her to read that twice, given C-Spans seeming bias on these call in shows to the Repugs.

So...maybe it was just "pay back" for Cheney piece and Santorum needs the publicity. Repeat the lie and they figured no one from this Administration would counter it. I wonder who the "unamed Defense Dept. official" who denied the report is. Certainly not a Bush Bot..to call out Santorum and Hoekstra as bloviators. who knows....but it sure looks like a failed stunt unless there's something more we don't know...

9. I wonder if the WMDs had "Made in USA" on them ??
Since we were arming Saddam during the '80's, even with poison gases. Just curious? I haven't heard anyone say?

12. No matter what, there are plenty of morans who eat this up
I received this reply from one of them when I told her that the munitions were old and degraded:

"Makes no difference to me HOW old or HOW degraded the WMDs are..I have
always thought that there were WMDs in Iraq/regions. Remember the pictures
of the slaughtered Kurds?...Iraq is approx. size of CA...There is plenty
of ground/sand that they could/still can be buried under...and not obvious
to humans during war/conflicts...Amazed that some people are unwilling to
accept that even empty containers might be dangerous...
