1. It would be REAL NICE if she (or another Senator) had the GUTS to
stand up and ask all the other Senators if they don't have something better to do with their time.

But I suppose that's too much to ask for.

27. I agree with you! All the problems we have in our country, now..
and this bullshit!

We have got to get rid of those DRE voting machines and march for paper ballots, hand counted only! We'll never get back in power until we do, because we know they have stolen every election since 2000!

And any balanced reading of her record would show she has not wavered one iota from the positions she has taken on these issues. SHe has always been opposed to a flag burning amendment.

She is working with other senators to pass a substitute bill to forestall an amendment from passing.

Flag-Burning Amendment Unites Sen. Leaders

Opposition to flag-burning amendment unites some senators in both parties

WASHINGTON, Jun. 25, 2006

(AP) Senate leaders in both parties said Sunday there is no need for a constitutional amendment
to ban flag-burning, which the Senate plans to debate this week.

Snip-->

Protecting the First Amendment's right to free speech takes precedent,
agreed Sens. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Dick Durbin, D-Ill.,
each their party's second-ranking Senate leader.
Both said they would oppose the flag-burning amendment.

"I think the First Amendment has served us well for over 200 years.
I don't think it needs to be altered," McConnell said on ABC's "This Week." <--Snip

Well, he knows all the "hillbillies" in his state of KY,(I am a WV hillbilly, too, and proud of it), believe in our Constitution and will fight those who want to change it for frivolous crap like this bill!

43. This is NOT behavior! It's expression!
I could burn a flag in order to retire it properly - as set forth in the U.S. Code and would not be a criminal to these people.

If, however, I engaged in exactly the same behavior, but did it in order to protest the war, I would be a criminal.

The only difference is my intent.

That is not punishing behavior, but punishing expression - which is protected by the First Amendment.

These people make me sick.

I can't believe he actually said that the flag-burning amendment is the most important thing the senate could be working on right now.

So we can now officially say that the top priorities of the republicans are Gay Marriage, the Estate Tax, and Flag-Burning, and the top priorities of the democrats are The War in Iraq, Protecting our Veterans, Protecting Our Constitution, and Common Sense Tax Policy.

16. Senator Clinton needs to take some time off. She looks like she is
burning the candle at both ends. She needs to get her hair done. She needs to look rested and put together at all times if she wants to impress. I don't know how she would hold up being President and I don't know why she would ever want to run for that office.

This attempt to change our Constitution is a poison pill for some other scheme of the Repugs. Flag burning is not meriting all this effort and tying up the Senate for days.

Her speech was preening and gratuitous.

I was so proud to have a pin that I wore during the 90s: "I'm a member of Hillary's fan club."

Boy, was I wrong about her --> she's now one sick political operator ... I'm saddened that IMO she'd do ANYTHING to be re-elected and/or be nominated to run on the Democratic ticket for President.

I'm beyond disgusted with her.

BTW ---> Byrd had a horrid past in the KKK, but the man has redeemed himself many times over ... Robert C. Byrd's speech today was *BEAUTIFUL.* I'm convinced, upon his passing from this world, "the Pearly Gates" will swing wide open for his entry into God's Promised Land. :-)

90s. We live in the D.C. Area and every time we'd be near to The White House, I'd say to my pre-school daughter, "Lookie there honey, that's were the President and her husband, Bill, live." LOL

I guess that I didn't know the real Hillary Rodham Clinton, and/or the POWER of her position has put a very disappointing zap to her head.

The last thing we need now is to have our populace go ultra-nationalistic.

May God have mercy on our souls and help us rid the Congress of Arrogant Power Brokers and War Mongers.

It's not her fault, for today reminded me how much I hate what politicians must do to get ahead. Thank God that our dear Robert C. Byrd has nothing to prove and, therefore, does not feel the need to pander in order to save his "career." :hi:

can you sum it up?

I'm surprised. I rather like Durbin, and I'm surprised also that Kennedy and Kerry voted for this amendment. But so far I can't find a text for it. Do you know what it said?
