Dumb question. Why does it take so long for the Senate to vote?

Dumb question. Why does it take so long for the Senate to vote?
Just so some can change their vote based on how others vote? Why not push a button like in the House? This lengthy process is such a waste of time!

1. They aren't all sitting there
They ring a bell, and they have to come from their offices, which are, if you're a newbie, lousy and far away, so you have to take the little subway to get there. The whips are counting votes, and lining people up to swap if need be.

The GOP WANTED this to fail. They just wanted something to WHINE about to distract from all the bloodshed in the sandbox and the 'Stan.
