A 4th of July message from We The People
I know it's kind of late, but maybe not too late. I was thinking about V For Vendetta last night, and I thought maybe we the people need to send some strong and clear message to the government and remind them that it is WE THE PEOPLE who are in charge, not the other way around. The government is supposed to represent us (within the reasonable rights protections set up within the Constitution to prevent minority abuse of course), not rule us.

So here's my idea: What if we sent a copy of the Declaration of Independence to everyone in the government who is not doing their jobs, from the White House to the Conrgess and locally as well? Would it work, or would it get ignored? Maybe alerting the media to the idea would be a good idea, although they would most likely just ignore it.

I just feel something needs to be done, and I think a strong message somehow or another needs to be sent; maybe not this idea, and maybe not now, but something. Timing is essential, as is the simplicity of it.

Any ideas?

1. I don't think anyone is going to make the connection....
Besides, "We The People" occurs in the Constitution, not the Declaration of Independence.

2. yeah, I know - originally I was going to say send both
but I'm just brainstorming.

You seriously don't think they'd get it? Yeah, you're probably right. We should just give up.

4. Are you going to include an explanation with it?
Honestly, I don't think they'll get it.

5. sadly, I do think you're probably right
if anything it would make them go "rah rah America" instead of actually reading the damn thing.

What if we highlight the salient points? Or maybe threw some Diebold machines into Boston harbor or something to drive the point home a bit?

Maybe we could rewrite or reworded it a bit to make it more current?

This is also why I was thinking that sending out press releases would help reinforce the idea, maybe with explanations.

3. I think it's a fine idea. . .
"For some strange reason, I spent a good deal of time on July 4, 2003
rereading and amending the Declaration of Independence for current times.
http://www.ushistory.org/declaration/document

I dissected it line by line and it amazed me how similarly the complaints of the Colonists against King George, paralleled almost identically the gripes of all progressives about the most incurious George Dubious. Perhaps I'll post that amended version for upcoming 230 anniversary of it's signing."
