Amazing! Latest DNC fundraiser....67% were first time donors.
Edited on Thu Jun-29-06 11:19 AM by madfloridian
From Dean's email today, I found this so encouraging.

"Over the last two weeks, over 11,000 people stood up to be counted by donating to support the 50-state strategy. The average donation was about $48 and you raised over $500,000 in less than two weeks.

But here's the most important statistic of this fundraising drive: of the more than 11,000 people donating to the Democratic Party in the last 2 weeks, 67% of them did so for the first time."

I like this new way of reaching out, it is called the Democratic Reunion. I notice there are already several events in our area, and I hear our state chair is having conference calls this week with committee people.

The Democratic Reunion will be a series of events across the country, in every single state, that will bring people back into the political process and remind everyone who wants change that we're all in this fight together for the last 100 days.

Your local Democratic Reunion event can be a social event like a picnic, a voter contact event like a canvass, or a campaign event with local candidates. The only requirement is that you come together with your neighbors on July 29th and kick off 100 days of work to build your local network and win this November.

Plan your own Democratic Reunion event now using our web site. It's easy, fun and you'll be provided with the materials you need to be successful. If you've never done anything like this before, now is the time to start. Plan your event now:

http://www.democrats.org/a/party/a_50_state_strategy/the_democratic_reunion/

Many state and local Democratic Parties have already started planning their Democratic Reunion events, and exciting things are happening.

In Washington, the state party will focus their local events on grassroots organizing to get the word out about Democratic candidates. In Arizona, there are already 25 local organizing events across the state that will build local energy for candidates up and down the ballot on Election Day.

In some states, local county parties will be holding picnics to introduce their candidates. In others, state parties will be organizing door-to-door canvasses in targeted neighborhoods. But remember -- if there's no event near you, you have the power (and responsibility) to create your own.

I am hearing good things about this.

67% were new donors. That is encouraging.

The stakes are that high

I believe sincerely if we do NOT take back at least one house in Congress, the republic is doomed

8. obviously that wasn't my intention
and I know it wasn't yours when you started the thread

The implication of NEW people coming on board does point to signs that people are starting to take notice, and wouldn't give money if they didn't intend to back it up with a vote

3. I like to see things like this versus the republican way of...
...raising money. They get $500,000 with one phone call to Halliburton or Enron.

14. They don't even have to call - it's implicit that a portion of taxcuts
and government contract dollars are to be kickbacked to the GOP.

10. When I canvass the response is overwhelming
Really. I've done canvassing as part of the Hope in the Heartland events here in Kansas. I've almost broken down in tears at the reception I've got from the people I've met. They have been so wonderful. They are signing up to do phone calls, put signs in their yards and have been asking about house parties for candidates. I had one wonderful woman who took me to meet her neighbors (not on my list b/c they were registered Independent) and they signed up to help out. The door-to-door canvassing works and is energizing people around here.

I just signed up for this weekend's reunion and I encourage everyone do to the same. To find a reunion in your area go to: http://www.democrats.org/page/event/search_simple

12. Even in our conservative area, people are open to Democrats.
They were not that way in 04. In 03 our neighbors had signs in their yard supporting the war if you can believe that. They treated us like aliens.

Times are really changing.

16. KNR! That sounds like
a lot of fun mixed in with really saving our Country..patriotic like the 4th of July.

67% first time contributors is a good sign more people are becoming aware of the crisis our country is in. I'm not sure where that awareness is coming from..not faux nusak or cnn.

17. Well, can't prove this but....
A couple of our DFA group here watched the online DNC fundraising for spikes. There were several. They usually coincided either with a big action by the Dems in congress, OR when Dean appeared somewhere he usually does not. It jumped up a large amount on Tuesday. That was when they appeared before the evangelical group.

I have a question, zidzi. He just had a fundraiser in Milwaukee before the LULAC convention, and it sounded like the state party got the money. Is he still doing that to some extent?

18. I don't know the answer..
sorry, mf. The way the Chairmen of the state parties stood up for Dean when begala was unfairly criticizing him I just figured that's where the money went.

Your local DFA group sounds really into it, that's interesting about the "spike" after the evangelical group. I imagine the DNC watches for that spiking, too.

20. Couple that with the huge lead dems have in generic congressional polls
and I'd say we have a good thing going on.
