Mayor Mike Bloomberg thinking running Independent '08 Prez?
http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/431022p-363232c.html

Mayor Bloomberg has privately said he has more than enough money to run for President - and now he may have a potential entry strategy.

Bloomberg's main political adviser, Kevin Sheekey, indicated that the mayor would be unlikely to challenge Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) - a friend who has been successful with the same category of independent voters to whom Bloomberg would appeal.

But Sheekey told The New Republic - in an interview with this columnist - that Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) would not be an obstacle, and could even be an ideal adversary.

"If John McCain gets beaten to the right - which is possible in a conservative Republican primary - and if Democrats elect someone through a primary who Democrats generally view as unelectable, there's a large segment of the American electorate that is looking for something different," Sheekey said.

That disaffected segment could translate into "36% of the vote in enough states to give you an electoral win," he added.

2. I think we can do a lot worse then
Bloomberg! I don't know a lot about the guy but he doesn't seem to be a neocon. I believe he was a democrat not long ago.
I'd take him over Jeb or McCain any day!

3. Bloomberg isn't that bad
He is a life-long Dem, and is now a very liberal Republican, more so Rudy. I might consider him over HRC. For example, Bloomberg supports gay marriage, supports gun control, supports kennedy-Mccain's immigration bill, opposed John Roberts for Chief Justice, supports abortion rights, and he would probably fund his own campaign.

5. Bloomberg Might Win as the Nominee of Either Party
and he might not be a bad president. But as an independent, he'll just throw the election to the GOP.

I mean, John Anderson was not bad either, but he didn't help Carter's reelection bid.

6. Your exactly right - he's toxic to Republicans because of his
stand on gun control. And he's too liberal for the God, guns and gay crowd.

Unfortunately he would be an attractive alternative to many who wouldn't vote for a conservative fundie Repug, but also couldn't vote for Hillary if she were the nominee.

I fully expect there will be a strong independent or two make a run in '08 and it scares the hell out of me that it will throw the election to the Repug nominee again.

7. Last Two Elections, I've Been Hoping Jesse Ventura Would Run
he would definitely swing the election the other way.

8. Bloomberg...
...would be preferable to "Bush-hugger" McCain by a long shot.

9. Can't say if Bloomberg sees an opening in the primaries for a
Democrat-turned-Republican from big bad New York City, but he would at least make it interesting.

And I think he's probably saved up a dollar or two to finance the gig.
