Does anyone really believe Bush will obey the Supreme Court ruling?
He still has to protect the American people. He will do his best to create the facade he is going along with the ruling, but he won't. He will look for ways to get around it. Just like he is looking for ways to get around the Court decision about the line item veto. He ignored it. Congress will just change it and he will call it legal. He plans on doing the same thing with this decision would be my guess. He has to get the right people in Congress to assist him in his crimes. He should have no problem.

5. I don't think he'll fight
I think he'll do something devious, like signing statements.

No way will he toe the line -- for the SCOTUS or ANYONE. He doesn't feel he has to.

8. He'll go to congress for the authority
I don't think the Repubs will have any problem going along.

How hard to you think the Dems will fight it?

They (the repubs) are going to use the "soft on terrorism/coddling terrorist" club to get it passed.

9. "DEMOCRATS WANT THE TERRORISTS TO BE RELEASED!" is how the
Strawman argument will go.

Rather than Democrats want the President to follow the established rules of the United States, and the Geneva Convention etc.

13. The Rove Twist
Indeed.

This is just the kind of thing that KKKarl Rove likes to twist into an attack on liberals.

That is what I expect. The Bushites and radical Republicans will craft military tribunal legislation that gets as far to the edge as possible, ie., secret evidence, secret testamony, limit habeus corpus, etc. ... then they will challenge Democrats to support the bill and if they don't they will scream that "Democrats want the terrorists to be released!"

So, we had all better be ready.

General Rove and the Battle of Gitmo

By Reed Hundt | bio
Look for the brilliant mastermind of November victories to use the Supreme Court's pro-prisoner decision to the R's advantage this fall. Add to "cut and run" as an epithet for Democrats the potent message that D's stand for releasing murderers and terrorists. To thwart this tactic, Democrats need to clamor for legislation calling for no bail, confidential reports to Congress on the danger to the country from these prisoners (conducted by the 911 Commission), trials starting no later than in the fall, and harsh penalties.

11. I agree...
I think that will be his first option. Then he will have a crackdown on the leakers. If the people don't know what is happening, no one will challenge their authority.

12. I'm sorry, his Oath of Office was to protect the Constitution - protecting
the people isn't actually mentioned, but implied. He can "protect" me (and other Americans) best by not violating the Constitution.

I'd rather get blown up by a 'terraist' than give up the Constitution that I had also sworn an oath to uphold and protect as has every other Veteran. And many die to uphold that each and every year. The least we can do is expect the Commander-in-Chief to do the same.

15. No he does as he likes
And the Ports are also going to be run by our 'dear friends' the Arabs. Until we get this group out they are going to push for every thing they can do. And it will speed up until Nov. then if they take Congress once more it will be even more so. Face it there are a lot of people in this country that want some one to run things for them. Did you see that Eagle Forum on c-span to day. I sure do not like the people on it but I sure like what they said about the borders etc. First time I have thought the GOP had something I thought was a good plan.

17. Nope. He already stated he's "the Decider", and shown disrespect...
...to everyone, and everything both national as well as international from the "git-go".

Why would he change a, for him, good thing?
