“ACLU Nativity Scene” at the Univ. of Texas at Austin

The voices coming from my dashboard told me about this yesterday. I can't find any news link for it yet though.

AUSTIN, TX – The Young Conservatives of Texas - University of Texas Chapter announced today that they will be displaying an “ACLU Nativity Scene” on the West Mall of the University of Texas campus on Monday and Tuesday, December 4th and 5th. The group’s intent is to raise awareness on the extremity of the ACLU, and bring to light its secular-progressive efforts to remove Christmas from the public sphere. The display, the first of its kind in the nation, will feature characters that are quite a bit different than the standard crèche.

“We’ve got Gary and Joseph instead of Mary and Joseph in order to symbolize ACLU support for homosexual marriage, and of course there isn’t a Jesus in the manger,” said Chairman Tony McDonald. “The three Wise Men are Lenin, Marx, and Stalin because the founders of the ACLU were strident supporters of Soviet style Communism. The whole scene is a tongue-in-cheek way of showing the many ways that the ACLU and the far left are out of touch with the values of mainstream America.”

The scene will also display a terrorist shepherd and an angel in the form of Nancy Pelosi.

“The ACLU and other left-wing extremist groups are working diligently to destroy American’s rights to the free expression of religion,” said Executive Director Joseph Wyly. “We’ve already seen in Chicago an attempt to censor the nativity by a city government this week. It’s just more evidence that there is a War on Christmas being waged by the far-left in this country.”

Young Conservatives of Texas, a non-partisan conservative youth organization :shrug: , has been fighting for conservative values for more than a quarter century in the Lone Star State and publishes the most respected ratings of the Texas Legislature. Too many of them foreigners (translate - people from the rest of that backwards state) moved into Austin and it's not nearly as weird and hippie blue as it used to be. I moved away two years ago to attend law school. And, I went to UT back in the late 1980s. But, I'd give anything to be on campus when this display goes up. The YCT are definitely outnumbered on campus. It should be interesting. As in, I wonder how long before the display is trashed. Did these freaks get permission from the administration to do this?

We're going home over the holidays, but sadly, I imagine all that will be left are kindling and memories by the time I make it down from Oregon. Sigh.

How ironic that neocons say liberals are destroying Christmas. This reeks of bad taste. It reminds me of the College Republicans on my campus, who held a baby shower for the unborn. Disgusting? You bet.

What will they think of next? War on Christmas? Free expression of religion?

Noone will stop Christmas because most people treat it like an American tradition and not Jesus' birthday. It'll never change.

There's a difference between freedom of expression and shoving something down someone's throat. Get real.

I can see the point of having a zero tolerance on this issue due to past problems, nevertheless the local government here has a nativity display in the main rotunda that would cover most of a city block.

The difference is, is that there's also a display of Native American spirituality artifacts on permanent display, other religious groups get their kick at the cat and I imagine if the Wiccans asked politely they'd get their time as well (over and above Hallowe'en/Samheim).

I find myself wondering this on an increasing frequency.
