OH Dem Party Chair to marry GOP Fundraiser
The jury is still out on how effective new ODP chair Chris Redfern was in helping down-ticket Dems win. Now he's announcing that he plans to pull a Carville and will marry a Columbus area GOP fundraiser?

This just in -- Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Rep. Chris Redfern (D-Catawba Island) and Republican fundraiser Kim Kahlert have announced plans to wed. Kahlert is director of development for Equality Ohio, a civil rights organization, and lives in Franklin County. The pair met at a political event in Columbus in March.

"Kim just needs a little direction politically, and I'm providing it," joked Redfern. Kahlert declared herself a Republican in the May primary, but said she may be more liberal than Redfern in some of her views and considers herself an independent. "As far as social issues, I'm as far on the left as I could possibly be," she said.

Saying she's more liberal than Redfern on social issues isn't saying much. Redfern is DLC.

4. Pillow Talk
The Dems who won in Ohio last month didn't rely on any help from ODP, but ran their own independent campaigns. The races that ODP was in charge of were, by some estimates, not run very well. ODP's candidates didn't make significant gains in the Ohio General Assembly and they nearly ingored their Supreme Court races, resulting in losses that gave the GOP complete control.

Sorry, but I would understand if many Dems were uncomfortable with their party chair being married to someone influential in the GOP.
Like the Carville - Matalin relationship, there can be real problems with "conflict of interest".

3. Best Wishes to both of them.
Redfern has done a very good job so far and if he and Kim find
joy and love together, fine.

Besides she is working for a civil rights organization too.

I see no problem with heteropolitical marriage. What matters is how he does his job.

7. They should both resign from their persepective political positions.
One mating of a Dem/Repub has resulted in the Carvilles. :puke:

8. It's not always disastrous...
Gro Harlem Brundtlandt, the Socialist former PM of Norway, was married to a Conservative politician, and their son was a leader of the Norwegian equivalent of the Young Conservatives in the UK. God knows what their mealtime conversations were like, and whether things got thrown, but she was quite a good PM by all accounts.

And wasn't Teresa Heinz a liberal Republican for quite a while when she was already married to John Kerry?

9. Just a little nudge here....
After pouring over the donation lists over the past several months to try and get a handle on where to get money for Sikora, I noticed that a lot of dem's were giving to republicans..

I think this happens because they don't want to get shut out of the process...

Also, she may have registered for the primary in order to vote for Petro instead of Blackwell...

We'll never know for sure and believe you me, I am no fan of Redfern after the way he walked away from Sikora....
