If I read one more candidate thread I'm going to puke

JEHOVAH!!!!!!

Does anyone care about issues anymore?

Every single one of these threads always winds up with the same arguments to discount this candidate or that.

1) He/she is not electable

2) He/She doesn't act or look electable

3) OH NO!!!! He/She is a senator and they don't fare well in presidential elections.

4) Not that one. We need to appeal to the center!!!!!

There is an old saying, "The government you get is the government you deserve.". One could argue how this kind of thinking really begins to play into that. I'm sick of every election having to pick a milquetoast candidate; The lesser of tow evils. We can complain about that all we like but there has to come a time when we all admit we are a part of the problem.

If people are interested in remaining focused, advocate the issues that are important to you. Argue them in such a way that you convince others beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is the way to go. There is a whole list of them.

A) Poverty

B) Welfare

C) Immigration

D) Health care

E) Abortion

F) Economic Justice

G) Social Justice

H) Military Spending

I) Iraq War

J) Media

K) Education

Why don't we focus our energies on those and what we need to do. Later on when it comes to the campaign hopefully the candidates follow suit. Depending on where they stand then we can make our selection.

Until then, breath a little and lets have a little fun with this stuff. Me personally, I'm gettin a little turned off from the candidates many are hootin about because very little of it is issue focused and I feel like they are getting shoved down my throat.

1. IIRC GD-P was set up to get candidate threads out of GD.
Where, more than 3 years ago they were pretty uniformly seen not only as you describe them but as likely to be flames at any moment.

I think it's gonna get worse as the primary season gets under full swing.

3. I didn't know that.

I'm a little confused what you mean by, "flames at any moment."

Primary season is a little short of two years away. We haven't gotten out of 2006 yet. I would think more people would be concerned with advocating an issue. Certain issues only seem to come out during campaigns and are never heard from again until the cycle starts again.

6. 1-These threads had a tendency to become flame wars-- 2 the hopefuls
will be in the field by summer 2007 some may wait until others stumble, or until someone managing multiple hopefuls thinks it's time to bring in a fresh unwounded player late in the game, but I expect most all of them will be boots on the ground by September.

7. I guess that leads me to wonder the sense of it all
It doesn't seem at this point to matter who it is. It all seems to be about the person and not the issue at hand. Then, when the candidate is selected, not many are happy with their stance on the issues.

9. Then don't read anymore candidate threads
That would seem to be the logical solution to your grievance.
