8. What an honor for John Edwards
The man who is standing up for the workin' man, just like Wellstone did.

I was thinking about all of the events he did this year:

*Hotel Rising Tour in Feb, including Hawaii
*Opportunity Rocks (Spring Break) in NOLA
*Janitors' right to organize in Miami and Houston
*Spoke to rallies for or conferences of union groups in Las Vegas, Oklahoma City, Wilmington (NC), Ohio
*Campaigning for minimum wage ballot initiatives in 6 states, and all of them raised it
*ACORN rally in Ohio (ACORN just got an injunction to make FEMA continue pay out what they are supposed to Katrina survivors)
* Spoke at Wake-Up Wal-Mart Rally in Pittsburgh
* Was at the LAANE rally last week when hotel workers got an increase in wages last week in LA

and running Poverty Center to boot.

He deserves this award.

16. What's Lamont up to now?
He was great, I donated to his campaign, and so very sad he lost :( I hope we haven't heard the last from him.

I'm still mourning the (Senate) losses of Jack Carter and Harold Ford, Jr too, just my part in contributing to the 50 State Strategy.

31. Social and economic justice
Edited on Thu Dec-07-06 10:21 AM by ultraist
Edwards certainly is a "leader(s) who take(s) a strong stand for workers' freedom to form unions and who fight for social and economic justice."

He has worked tirelessly to strengthen unions and raise the minimum wage. The federal minimum wage has stagnated for the longest period ever, since it was created in 1938, for nearly ten years. Shameful.

The good news is though, that the minimum wage increase intiatives that were on ballots in six states in the 06 midterm election, all passed! In part due to Senator Edwards stumping in those states.

Keep up the good fight, Senator Edwards!
