Remind me; the US is supporting a 'free' Iraq, not Sunnis or Shi'ites or
Kurds, right?
And that whole country in Afghanistan is cleared, no problems there, right? That whole democracy is going swimmingly, as I recall. :sarcasm:
So, the Saudis bail, claim they're supporting the Sunnis, and how is that going to
influence our lack of favoritism exactly?

1. *adjusting tinfoil*
Bush family friends in the the House of Saud realize that the threat of a Saudi-Iranian war is the perfect cover for:

1) keeping America in Iraq indefinitely, thus preventing an Iranian occupation, thus keeping a potential threat at bay.

2) shoring up John (Add 140,000 More Troops) McCain's questionable presidential bid

3) Keeping American dollars flowing into Saudi Arabia

It's not a threat at all. Just good business.

2. It's blackmail. "If the Americans pull out, we'll support..."
Disturbing, and who knows how the asshat in charge will react?
It's a threat, pure and simple. While I understand the Saudi outlook, it's a threat. If our countrymen doesn't 'get' that, I'd be surprised.

3. Let's put Saddam back in charge
OK, he's not perfect but he did a better job than we're doing.

4. If the Saudis don't keep the Arab Sunnis from being slaughtered
by the Shia in Iraq, it'll be bye-bye King Abdullah and hello Osama. I don't think much of the Saudi Royal Family, but I'll take Abdullah over Osama any time.

I just wonder if King Abdullah added a little stick to the carrot by threatening to cut off the oil.

Actually, King, then Prince, Abdullah warned Bush that taking out Saddam would cause Iraq to splinter and might end up in a general Middle East war. Now Abdullah is saying you broke it, you fix it. Where have we heard that before.

Back in 1990, King Fahd told Bush Sr. the same thing. Bush Sr. took Fahd's advice and only chased Saddam back into his own country. It may have been the only smart thing Sr. did.

This business with the Saudis means that we're just totally f**ked no matter what we do.
