8. Done! Clark is the most qualified despite what the naysayers say. Senators do NOT win.
Unfortunately. At least, not since JFK.

40. 2 senators have been elected president in the last 100 years
I wouldn't say they "do not win," but it is obvious they have a harder time becoming president than non-senators. And while neither senator-turned-president defeated an incumbent president, many governors have defeated incumbent presidents in just the last few elections (Carter, Reagan, Clinton).

According to some. Good catch on the double standard thing.

Ah primary season! I thought I smelled something rank. ;-)

21. History says Clark has a solid chance
Edited on Tue Dec-19-06 08:37 AM by Tom Rinaldo
Jimmy Carter had 3% support among Democrats in November of 2005, two months before the first primaries. Clinton was a huge long shot also at this point in the 1992 cycle. OK, those were the last two Democratic Presidents to hold office. And do you know why those men had such low poll numbers? Because there were other men had high poll numbers, that's how math works.

Democrats who are favorites this far out almost always lose the nomination (or drop out before the Primaries) unless they were a former Vice President. Lieberman and Gephardt were way ahead of the pack for 2004 a year ahead of the first primaries. Gary Hart, Mario Cuomo, Paul Tsongas, Al Gore in 1988, Ed Muskie, the list of early favorites who never win the nomination go on and on and on.

Clark is one of the few non U.S. Senators in the race. Right there that gives him an advantage over most of the field. Obama I am convinced is getting all of this attention too early in the cycle, he will no longer be "new" by the time the primaries are on us, and "new" is part of what is propelling him. Too many Democrats think Hillary can't win a General Election. Many were disappointed in Edwards as a VP candidate. Does that mean Edwards, Clinton, or Obama can't win? Of course not, any of them can, but history shows that early favorites are anything but a shoe in.

29. I recall a very obscure former governor of a small New England state,
who ran for President for the 2004 election. Through his grassroots organizing and fundraising, Howard Dean became the MSM's annointed one by the end of 2003. Let's not be influenced by polls of the average voter who knows next to nothing at this stage.

45. Two out of those three supported the Iraq invasion.
A different combination of them don't really have the experience or qualifications for the presidency.

Even if it's quixotic of me, I'm still going to support Clark. I don't begrudge people choosing to support Kucinich, even though many might consider that to be quixotic too. If you don't support Clark, you probably shouldn't join the group.

MOst Democrats do not want a fricken general in charge of our civilian government. Especially one who so loved the bushies. Clark is an opportunist. He has no Democratic credentials.

You speak for yourself. I take offense at your calling Wesley Clark a ""friken general." Where in the hell do you get the idea that he "loved the bu$hies"? Clark an opportunist? No Democratic credentials? Sorry I fell for your flamebait, thread-pissing post. Maybe there aren't more responses to it because people don't want to give you the satisfaction.

37. Ah Tom, ignore the flame-bait my friend!
You will note this particular poster always just drops in, makes an utterly erroneous statement and disappears. Say whatever you like in reply, you'll not hear back. With that said you should bookmark this post of yours and paste it in whenever anyone makes same kind of statement, your list is quite comprehensive. :-)

Additionally, in a post up-thread you commented on the early front-runner thing. I think we've discussed this in passing before but I can't stress enough how right you are! Whoever the front-runners are now and for the next however many months, let 'em have that bloody spot! If your choice is not among these frontrunner candidates rejoice!

Cheers,
Julie

49. As usual...You don't know what the
HELL you're talking about. READ, read and read some more about what Clark stands for or what his platform is. Check out his site! Gain some knowledge on a subject before you post negative posts on this DEMOCRATIC board! If you can't say something nice...take a hike! Boost your own man and tell us why he's so great and stop putting down ours with your stupid propaganda. Are you sure you are not a RepubliCON on the wrong site?

Now is the time for Dems to be getting familiar with the talent that is out there, and not just having the MSM shove Hillary down our throats. (If we all decide Hillary is the best candidate, so be it, but right now, I'm liking Clark, Edwards and Obama)

33. they only have
six or seven threads on GD-P - if they don't talk about Kerry, nobody else will. The only way they have of elevating Kerry is by trashing everybody else to bring them down.

46. I'm really not seeing it on this thread
other than one poster. I've actually noticed that many Kerry supporters are very good about defending Clark when he's being attacked unfairly.

I feel that it's never a good idea to stereotype a whole group based on the behavior of a small number of its members. Us Clark supporters have been victims of that big time.

51. Some supporters of every candidate get real ugly real quick
Also some posters who don't support any candidate get real ugly real quick. Basically some people get real ugly real quick. In my mind it is statistically irelevent if I think 8% of candidate A's supporters get ugly, and 13% of candidate B's supporters get ugly. Most don't get ugly, and I'm sure everyone sees the offenders differently anyway.

42. I always like the idea of Clark/Warner
though I am probably in the minority on DU. As an added bonus, Kerry's 251 electoral votes plus 13 VA, plus 6 AR = 270 to win.
