DO you think any Dems are pissed that they waved through Gates?
He lied outrageously at his hearings, saying that he would rein in Smirk, when now, just three weeks later, he's shown that he will be another rubber stamp for this disaster.

Any Dem who still thinks (s)he did the right thing is either one of the neocons or as clueless as Il Dunce'

1. Does it really matter?
Events on the ground will sink all those who are associated with Iraq.

One could ask - Do you think Gates is pissed that he let Poppy talk him into being a point man for this crap?

of our political jerks still regard themselves as Tom DeLay's bitch.

I will reserve judgment on the Democrats until I see what they do, but I am under no illusion that they will be unified in getting us out of Iraq

I think people tend to forget that WE INVADED IRAQ based on a lie. They were NOT a threat to us, and definitely not involved with 9/11

How can anyone justify this is beyond me. Are we to believe that it is OK to attack any country we don't agree with?

I am also disturbed by Charlie Rangle's grandstanding with the draft. There is a real potential that these assholes in the whitehouse will use Rangle to reinstitue the draft. The talk you hear about boosting the military is NOT just talk.

Rangle is under the illusion that the Iraq war would have never happened if there was a draft. That is pure bullsh*t. The country would have done the same thing if there was a draft. The lies about Iraq and WMDs, or a connection between Iraq and al queada would have still been perpetuated, and I have no doubt the masses would have fallen for it hook line and sinker. Very similar to the lies that led up to our involvement in Viet Nam

This is why I have very little trust in governments

11. If there had been a draft the
middle class such as it is would have screamed bloody blue murder. The repuks would have worried about the 2004 election never mind the 2006. I think the draft would have prevented bushie from roaming off the deep end.

13. I respectfully disagree.
First of all the propaganda floating around was that Iraq was a threat, had WMDs, and there was a connection with al queada. In addition, the whole thing was sold as necessary to "protect" the U.S. The middle class would not have screamed bloody murder at first. They didn't in Viet Nam, and nothing has really changed

but, even if they did scream bloody murder, it STILL would not have stopped them from proceeding. In Viet Nam when the screaming started it still took YEARS before we finally got out.

Also, I don't trust the government with my child's life. And when Rangle says, it will be different this time, and that you can do community service instead of combat, don't believe it.

The good news is, at least today, most of the Democrats in Congress do not agree with a draft

4. in one sad way I am glad he was chosen.
(let me rephrase it - EXTREMELY SAD WAY)

One worry I had was that the GOP would pull some jujistu move, flip the Dems and somehow make the war games of this Boy King our fault. Now that we have the majority of the house and senate, we control the legislative, ergo the purse strings of government.

Gates' presence and decision-making (approved, sealed, stamped and delivered in advance by Darth Cheney) is totally tied to Team Bush. We cannot be held to account for Gates' continuing the most inane, insane and deadly policies of this administration.

It is extremely sad that so many more innocent boys and girls will die - US troops, US contractors, Iraqis and other coalition forces.
All because the boy king "gets excited as commander in chief".

amazing. Insane. Incredible.

5. But it will result in jujitsu
When the complaints about the Iran-Contra traitor Gates come cascading down, they'll be immediately followed by "Well, the Dems approved him 95-2". Same thing after Smirk lied us into a trillion-dollar war.

7. The congressional Democrats are either the stupidest, most gullible
set of rubes in the history of congames, or they are complicit.

I know which I believe is true.

9. My opinion on Gates is still out. .
IFhe's a smart leader, he will manage to find a way for Shrub to save face and get out of Iraq, AND make him think it was his idea all along. That CAN be done, but it takes a very talented leader to do it.

I recognize Gates isn't going to give his real opinions on air to the public, now should he. At least not yet!

I'm going to wait for a few weeks and see what happens.

10. Gates
will become irellevant shortly as Bush escalates. "A new way forward" another way of saying stay the course becomes overwhelming to the American public. This Badministration just blew it's last chance. Investigations will take them out shortly.

14. The frequent claims here
of anyone being the only "open-government, anti-corruption" Democrat and calling others the "cover-up" wing of the Democratic Party" flies in the face of the unfettered confirmation of Gates.
