Why Edwards does not change everything.
1. It's 13 months to go, ergo everything will change, and change again, and again, and again, and....

2. His message is not revolutionary...don't get me wrong, it's a good message, based in solid Democratic values. But it certainly doesn't "change everything."

3. Obama will sound similar themes to Edwards, but broader and more revolutionary appeal than Edwards.

4. All the top-tier Democratic candidates will have similar messages

5. It's still about Iraq, and will be for the forseeable future

1. Edwards and his wife are loaded with charisma
It will do it for them. An Edwards/Obama ticket looks beautiful. Young, energetic, optimistic, and tomorrow trending.

The nice, fair and balanced media is already sticking pins in Edwards. They'll do it to every Dem running, guarantee you.

8. the media is going to disect everyone
republicans and democrats. That is what they should have done in 2000 with Bush. But, now they will be more so to not make that mistake again. No republican has declared but, I've heard them bashing the repugs.
and they will with all the candidates.
Edwards can take care of himself.

4. Agreed
I think the Edwards supporters are excited. They are a bit fanzine but, I know they are excited.
However, I do not see him walking on water.
His message is as old as the New Deal. Traditional. No shakes.
And so many things will change and something interesting will happen alot. I do know Obama has a similar message but, it is alittle more transendant. More updated.
I don't agree all the dems will have a similar message. Hillary's will be whatever one she can get away with pandering and pretending about. That is better than the one she has now. Nothing.
Iraq will be the big one. Who voted yes and who regrets and why they voted yes. And who was against it.

12. When did I say I don't like Edwards?
True, I would choose Gore, Obama, or Clark over Edwards, but I didn't say I don't like him. I don't think he is the best presidential choice, that is true.

11. Edwards announced today. I think he is a welcomed sight for many...
Edited on Fri Dec-29-06 02:37 AM by FrenchieCat
He's been running for a very long time, and he has outstanding PR and understands the game better than ever (and to be brutally honest, he ain't no Clinton woman, no young Black guy and no progressive elf trice married Idealist). Personally, I think he has a good shot...not because of any support he'll get from me, but he does seem like pretty good candidate to many....and hey, it is a free country, and different strokes for different folks and all that jazz. Some are still looking for Camelot, and Edwards has a lot of that in him and so I don't blame them one bit.

We shall see if he has what the American people want in their leader during the next 13 months...and we will see how the media plays him. They gave him quite a bit of credence last time, and so I don't think they are going to beat on him this time either.

I just hope that McCain doesn't win on the Repug side...for Edwards' sake. Romney would be better in that case.

I think that's a little bit too much youth and inexperience on the ticket. Some youthful idealism is good...which is why I would like to see Obama on the ticket somewhere.

Why don't you guys stop this ridiculous feud that doesn't help anybody? I was so sick of it during the last election and I damn sure don't want to hear it again. Do us all a favor and cheer for your guy, but leave the other alone. We're all on the same side, aren't we?

33. I'll say "you guys" all I want, thank you. Every thread about
Edwards is hyjacked by Clark supporters trying to run him down. If it's not Clarkie1 it's another Clark supporter. Why don't you guys just support Clark and leave Edwards alone this time. Hell, I won't even consider Clark if that's the way his supporters behave. Same crap as 04.

and that doesn't mean anyone wants to steal anyones thunder.
I don't see him as charismatic. he just doesnt' strike me that way. I see him as nice, lightweight, pleasant guy. That doesn't mean anyone wants to be mean. We just don't see him the same way. Not earth shaking.

22. Well, lets see just how campaign '08 seems to be going so far...
Edited on Fri Dec-29-06 04:25 AM by hayu_lol
The Goreites have been jumping up and down for a couple of years now. Their candidate is still doing his peculiar little dance...pick any daisy and pull off the leaves: will he, won't he, etc. Gore has one message and quickly runs out of gas on any other.

Kucinich(Keebler Elf)throws his hat in the ring, sigh, again, and his supporters go crazy attempting to destroy any other candidate. Not with factual statements or bits about their guy, just 'he is the man' type cheerleading. Dennis is undoubtedly a nice guy...but then so are they all. His record at being a candidate is really poor. Greens love him.

Now we have the Edwardian group...who jump on Clark supporters(evidenced in this thread)for attacking Edwards. Edwards is a pretty face and seems to be charasmatic. He lacks exposure to the world and to the US as a whole. He is just a bit too regional for many of us...but thats ok. Until his supporters attempt to convince the rest of us that Edwards can actually walk on water. We have a nasty war on our hands that is literally eating up our military, once the strongest in the world. What branch of the military did Edwards serve in?

We have at least a dozen other wanna-be's who will be running...at least for a month or two until they run out of money and support. We also have Wes Clark. Compare any of the declared or as yet undeclared candidates against Wes in any area: educational background, life experience, accomplishments on a world scale, his statements on almost any topic one is interested in. The other guys quickly pale into the background behind this very high achiever. He is also a Rhodes Scholar.

We have a broken country, a broke country as well. It may well be that the devaluation of the dollar taking place now will see us in bankruptcy prior to the '08 elections. Our creditors, and they are many, are now dumping dollars in exchange for Euros. Whoever we select will have major problems in almost every area of life.

The question: Does Kucinich, Edwards, Obama, Hillary, have the requisite background to handle such major problems right out of the box. My opinion says no, they don't.

Doesn't matter what I think. The congenial party in Iowa...and the picnic in New Hampshire will decide for all of us who wins this lottery. The 48 other states will not be consulted or needed.

I hope that you all are happy with your individual candidates. I'll stick with intelligence, education, ecperience because I want my country to survive. I'll stay with Wes.

I'm not gonna attack any of these guys/ladies...let the public decide.

24. Well, to be fair......
when one is responding to a poster calling names, using an "F" bomb, and breaking quite a few DU rules, I don't blame poster for not quite living up to his promise.

But I will say for the record that Gore has plenty gas, and Kucinich is actually pretty cute IMO. :)

28. Who will take on Israel?
Nothing in the ME will get resolved until our pols shake off their cowardice to confront the AIPAC stranglehold on Congress.

Why Condemning Israel and the Zionist Lobby is so Important

By James Petras

We American have a necessity to put our fight against Israel and its Lobby at the very top of our political agenda. It is not because Israel has the worst human rights agenda in the world – other states have even worst democratic credentials – but because of its role in promoting its US supporters to degrade our democratic principles, robbing us of our freedom to debate and our sovereignty to decide our own interests. Continue ..http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article15989.htm

“It’s no great secret why the Jewish agencies continue to trumpet support for the discredited policies of this failed administration. They see defense of Israel as their number-one goal, trumping all other items on the agenda. That single-mindedness binds them ever closer to a White House that has made combating Islamic terrorism its signature campaign. The campaign’s effects on the world have been catastrophic. But that is no concern of the Jewish agencies.” December 8, 2006 statement by JJ Goldberg, editor of Forward (the leading Jewish weekly in the United States)
