dumb people! The only candidates they recognized were Hillary, Obama, Edwards and McCain! Where do they find these people? They had never heard of Richardson; a few had heard of Biden; none had heard of Kuchinich! or Gravel! Most of the parts of it that I saw were a bunch of knuckledraggers--they hated Bill Clinton, loved GW Bush!

Lawd, Lawd, Lawd!

31. I'm sorry. We're going to first have to focus group "dumbasses"
and find out if that is the right framing we want to put forward upon informing these people of their ignorance.

8. it's hard not to watch this
and think if these people represent a broad cross-section of the country, then Obama is the best bet for us. people seem to be willing to give him a chance, even without knowing much about him, because of some feeling they have about him.

You can't buy that or learn that. If you connect with people instinctively, you'd have to do a lot to push them away from you.

It's obvious that some people just won't vote for Clinton, no matter what. They don't trust Edwards. And Obama is left there is a giant question mark, but one with a tremendous upside. His ceiling is unlimited. Even the die-hard republicans in this group are saying nice things about him.

how would Obama get you to give up your seat.

He would Charm you.

Talk one on one.

Talk to the group as a whole.

Hillary

Tell the people the flight is canceled

She would get on the plane.

she would shove her way to the front.

She would be assertive.

Who would yourespect the most for handling this issue Barack Obama.

She would get on the plane because I am Hillary Clinton.

She would have her secret service get her a seat on the plane.

12. What would make him/her a good President
Edited on Thu May-31-07 08:32 PM by Ethelk2044
Barack Obama
Effective Administrator
Providing a Vision
Good Foreign Policy
Does not have a long track record

Clinton
Provide a vision for the country.
Diplomatic issues.
Providing an agenda an accomplishing it.

Winning Trust who has the furtherest to Go

Hillary 8

What is Hillary's short comings

She is riding on the coat tails of her husband.

There is coldness, no femininity

We do not need another Clinton. Do not need another Bush or Clinton.
She has a power and control power. If she got election there will be hell to pay
for what happened to her husband.

Bill Clinton will have more power in her administration than he should have.

20. well, that was to be expected
Obama is like having the No. 1 pick in the draft, yeah, he has great potential, and you'd love to have him on your team, but you don't know if he can come right in and lead right away.

I think he can. But that's a question voters are going to have to answer.

22. so do i
He's got quite a fight in the primaries though, which will only make him - and all the other candidates, much better in the general election.

Whoever comes out of our field in '08 will be in much better shape than Kerry was in '04. IMO, I don't think Kerry faced a tough primary at all past the first quarter of it.

26. I disagree. It is clear that Hillary and to a lesser extent Edwards
have serious handicaps. Frankly, I was shocked by this focus group. None of them read blogs, I saw. A lot of them loved Rudy Guiliani, but then one guy was caught unaware that Guiliani supports gun control.

The Hillary supporter was the smartest one in the room. I'm not sure what that means -- but he was more informed than anyone else.

There were two right wingers (full out right wing), one yammering about Iraq bringing us "freedom" (????) while the other wants to stay in Iraq forever. All the other Republican/right leaners wanted OUT of Iraq.

Frankly, this focus group depressed me, and makes me want to take my ball and go home. Nobody knew anything. Like how Obama was a community organizer and taught constitutional law. And doesn't he have more than 2 years' experience in the state senate? And he's going to have to talk more about his working on ethics in the Senate. Anti-corruption stuff.

And what was with Edwards being "rich"? ALL of them are rich. Very frustrating.

30. Yep. And they don't seem to care or understand their role
in this country going downhill. What Al Gore said: "We're amusing ourselves to death". I think he is definitely onto something with "The Assault on Reason".

But I'm scared even for Obama. These people (for which these are the type of people who are polled) know so little. I have "Dreams of My Father", and there is stuff in there that may scare these people away, like him being angry for a time, the drugs, going to the socialist meeting. Ugh. I thought this stuff was fully vetted by now, but obviously it is not.

Obama because of his vision. He would represent a real change.

29. Really? It looked like it would be Guiliani.
I think if he's the nominee, we will have to obliterate his "great leader" persona big time. He was good for one day. And even then, he just was in the right place at the right time, and Bush was so weak that Guiliani seemed better.
