sadly, I work with a Drudge junkie and know a few others, and they are convinced that anything bad you say about Bush - even if you are just pointing out actual things Bush has said and done - is "Bush bashing" and that the only reason we bash him is because KO/George Soros/Michael Moore/Rosie or whoever tells us to.
It's insanity. Seriously. They (the Freepers' masters) have set up the perfect system:
step 1 - The "Liberal Media" meme that so many believe - create distrust for the media and higher education. ie: information is bad.
step 2 - Replace that information with a steady stream of junk propaganda - FOX, Drudge, Rush, etc. Sadly, the vast majority of the rest of the media has jumped in line to be shills because of fear of falling behind in the ratings game and fear of being called unpatriotic/Liberal. Any tactics they use, they blame on their opponents (ie: most Americans), including being brainwashed sheep blindly following someone. They use lies as smear tactics and accuse the Left and Center of bashing Bush for telling the truth.
step 3 - profit
We won't win until we take back information, which is why the internet scares the hell out of them so much. They tried to keep up with netroots through fake astroturf, and have started a meme about the internet being dangerous and bloggers being uninformed, which is really just a repeat of step 1 for a new media, one which is not in anyone's control.
For instance, look at all of the jokes and comments about Edward's haircut and both his and Gore's house, but you don't hear that Thompson was directly involved in deregulating the S&Ls in the 80's, which cost the taxpayers $150 billion, or that Edwards and Gore are not even the most wealthy candidates. We won't hear questions about their multiple divorces or criticisms on their disbelief in basic science.
Just like in 2004 when we heard every detail and even more lies about John Kerry's Vietnam service, but when Rather started to discuss Bush's "service" he was taken down and taken down fast. How many of the folks who have been wrong about Iraq and Plame and Libby and everything else will lose their job for bad journalism? I will bet you $100 it will be around the number of zero. For that matter, why are the people like Armstrong Williams and Maggie Whatshername who were paid to be propagandists with tax dollars still employed?
