If Obama is not the candidate, he should not aim at a VP post
on the ticket.

Instead, he should go back to Illinois and run for governor. If he wins, then, in 2012 or 2016 he should run for president again, this time with executive track record that should beat any one else.

3. The only sitting VP elected to President
in more than 50 years was papa Bush, because for many it was like Reagan's third term.

Yes, I know what people here say about Gore except... he has not been in the White House since 2000.

Of course, if Obama only wants to be the VP then, sure, he should go for it.

6. If he doesn't get the nomination, he should accept the VP spot if it's offered to him.

7. I agree. Obama in 2012 or 16.
Too early for him yet, in spite of how much i might like him.

BTW, I'm still undecided. I wish Kucinich would have a chance but i just know he will be marginalized. Every candidate that might make real, recognizable change is marginalized, regardless of party.

9. Why should Obama have to wait for 10 more years??!!
And Edwards, Thompson, and Romney can run after serving one term in their respective offices? I'm sorry, but this smacks of racism. The black guy somehow needs to have double the experience of a comparable white candidate in order to be considered 'qualified'. This is ridiculous.

15. If Edwards, Thompson or Romeny
or the rest of them, for that matter, don't get the nomination, this will be the end of their political careers. While for Obama his career is wide open. Yes, he can be a V.P. or run for another senate term but if he wants to be a president someday, going through an executive path makes more sense. Plus, since D.C. will never be anyone's favorite base, he can still claim to be an outsider, but not after two terms as a senator.

I did not say that he should not run now. But there have been speculations that he is not attacking the front runner, Clinton, because he is angling for a V.P. post and I think that he can do better.

No need to read what is not there.

11. I have been saying this for the past four months. the current Governor's 2nd term will...
be over in 2009. that leaves an opening for Obama to run. at this point he would be the favorite to win from either side. but if he wins the Governorship he's not going to be able to run for President in 2012 because if theres an democrat in the White house hes not going to run against them.

16. I mentioned 2012 in case we lose, again.
Of course if we win the White House then the next opportunity will be in 2016.

14. Too soon for this
He needs to see how he does in the race for the nomination. After that, I'm sure he would be considered by the nominee and he will decide if he wants to be VP.

17. Governor is a step down from his current position
High profile US Senators get far more national media attention than Governors. If nobody knew who he was, it would be one thing, but he will lose exposure by going back into state level politics.

18. That makes no sense
If he loses the primary and comes in second, the only logical step would be to aim for the VP spot. It would be pointless for him to not aim for it.
