Talked With A Former * Supporter Yesterday..........

she said she "couldn't believe that * would turn out to be such an ass."

I had an opportunity to really dig in and say that I knew right from the beginning how this administration was going to go and when I tried to discuss this with her and her husband - they wouldn't hear me - listen to me - or even take in watching Farenheit 911.

She and her husband recently took a trip to Europe where they commissioned a piece of artwork be painted for them and sent to them in the U.S. The other day they heard from somebody in some customs house that told them that they needed to send them a copy of his Social Security card before they could release it for shipping to them.

Given all the publicity on 'identity theft' they were reluctant and they also were balking because they felt violated - that they were being suspected of doing something illegal or terrorist in nature.

This gave me the opportunity to unload again - as when all the hub hub was in the news about NSA eavesdropping and spying - they were the first to say that - "it's ok - we're not doing anything wrong - it won't effect us."

I told her - yes - you gave up some of your freedoms back then - it is effecting you. Now suddenly they wake up and realize that what I was telling them back then was true.

We talked about the war - as they have two kids of age to go into the service. She correctly said - we can't even send them to Canada to save them from being drafted (should a draft be reinstated) as one needs a 'passport' now.

I told her about *'s recent executive order (in case of another 9/11 type event or otherwise) where he has the power to shut down Congress and declare essentially 'martial law'. I said this is all going on and you are not hearing it in the MSM. One of these days you are going to wake up and say - what happened to my country. I told her why else would * enact this executive order unless he was intending on using it. She didn't argue with me like in the past.

Bottom line - there appears to be a groundswell of abandonment from * and the Repug party by people like this. These were staunch Repugs - that are now beginning to be tuned in to what is really happening.

Does anybody have similar stories of their friends or associates - waking up.

BTW - they faxed a copy of his SS Card to the Customs house. I put additional fear in her by saying - you don't know where the fax machine is at this facility. You don't know who has access to it. You don't know how long the fax will sit there. You don't know who might pick it up. You don't know if somebody will Xerox it - because usually the Xerox machine is next to the fax machine. I'm sure she and her husband didn't get much sleep last night.

Don't know if she bothered to change her registration to Unaffiliate, but even she is not happy with Bush now. Thanks to the debacle in Iraq, Bush is no longer the grand Savior of the USA and the world.

faxing a social security card to get something out of customs? Somebody there is fishing for information. Giving them one's information over the phone should have been sufficient.

She'd better subscribe to a service soon and keep her eye on her credit report.

(Shoot, I haven't seen my original card for years and years. I think I know where a copy exists, but I'm certainly not sure.)

5. Had a similar "I told you so" experience

this week with a co-worker who brought in two articles about the "NAFTA highway".

I took no glee in gloating (although I did) since the damage done by Bush is now so great that, as you say, one day we will all wake up and say, "what happened to America". Unfortunately it won't only be the Bush supporters suffering, it will be all of us.

When he wondered out loud how we could stop this I let him know he was way too late to the table.

6. I have had similar experiences, but when I ask who they would

be voting for they go right back to the Repubs. I tell them that they are still part of the problem because Repubs at all levels are the enablers that have allowed * to get away with all he has. The silence is deafening.

my co-worker had the same attitude. He didn't care if it was a D or an R as long as they supported the correct policies.

As I told him, Bush is the perfect example of why that is a bad idea. Bush talked a "Compassionate Conservative" agenda to get elected but then reverted to the neo-con principles that got us in trouble. Better to look at the underlying philosophy of the party and the candidate, that is the position they will govern from when elected.

Quoted Grover Norquist's bathtub remark to him and asked how a party deticated to ending government could be trusted to govern!

9. That is the thing that frustrates me the most.

Anything past the latest talking point is unexplored territory to them. A man is truly blind who WILL not see. Somebody famous said that but I don't remember who.
