Am I Being Too Suspicious? - Did * And Putin Set Us Up........
I'm thinking that all along that it was *'s intention to put this missile defense system in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is a central Asian country bordering the Caspian Sea. If he would have come out and originally wanted to put it in Azerbaijan - some of us here would have said he is doing it again for the sake of oil and the oil companies. Remember the deal offered to the Taliban - 'carpets of gold or carpets of bombs' - the pipeline to the Caspian Sea.

So I'm thinking a scheme was hatched with Putin. Tough talk and saber rattling about the start of a new 'cold war'. Again - use the scare tactic to put fear in the hearts of the American people again about Russia.

Then have a meeting at the G8 where it looks like * and Putin negotiated a deal to prevent a new 'cold war' and the agreement to do this is to place the missile defense system in Azerbaijan - which was what was intended all along. It's a win-win situation for both * and Putin.

Check out these links about oil in the region and pipelines: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4577497.stm and http://www.newhumanist.com/oil.html

Check out this map:

I can't help but believe that we were snookered again - for the sake of oil.

Am I being too suspicious?

5. Guess I am jaded at 46, I think all politicians are crooks
No you are not being too suspicious, you are just being a critical thinker. Something our goverment knows nothing about unless it comes in the form of a report from a well-paid think tank. :eyes:

7. My husband had the exact thoughts
A set up! I also felt it could have been a deversion to take talks away from enviromental discussions. I guess we have learned politicians talk with forked tongues!

8. I don't think you are off at all
I think it is totally within the realm of speculation and reality that the world powers, in an effort to hold onto power, make deals where they increase the level of fear of their citizens. They do this so that the "hawks" of each country can retain power.
