Gonzalez is Just Doing His Job
The Senate is expected to cast a vote of no-confidence today for Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez after questioning his leadership in the attorney purge scandal and possible attempts at voter fraud.

I don't understand Senators questioning if Gonzalez was successfully doing his job. He was. Gonzalez's job since 1994 has been at George W. Bush's attorney. He was general counsel to then Governor Bush, then named by Bush to be the Sec. of State of Texas and to the Texas Supreme Court. When Bush was came to the White House, Gonzalez tagged along. He was Bush's White House counsel and then was named at Attorney General.

The point is all along Gonzalez's job was to protect George W. Bush and give him legal aid. Why then should we expect Gonzalez to stop doing that when he became Attorney General?

Maybe the Senators should have thought about this when they confirmed him.

1. Respectfully, I disagree... he did not do his job.
The Attorney General of the U.S. upholds and efends the Constitution -- all the Constitution. The Attorney General is supposed to uphold the rights of all the American people, not just Republicans. The Attorney General is supposed to be unbiased, politically. The Attorney General is NOT the President's lawyer, he/she is the United States' lawyer.

Gonzales perverted this job, lied about his biases and planes under oath, subverted the Constitution, and much more.

He didn't do his job. He did the job the way Bush and Cheney wanted him to do it so he wouldn't be fired. He needs to resign. If he will not, the Senate needs to censure him in the strongest way at their disposal.

5. Being sarcastic
This is exactly what I expected when Gonzalez was confirmed and the Senators should have realized this too.

Sorry.

There's so much nonsense on this board lately, some days it's hard to tell. My apologies.

2. the Nuremberg defense?
Undeniably, the Attorney General is a member of the President's cabinet, a part of his team. But the Attorney General represents also the American people, and his first allegiance must always be to the Constitution of the United States.

His job within this Administration is to protect W, no matter what the Constitution or US law says.
