Thompson's in
Fred Thompson, the actor and former US senator, has given his strongest indication yet that he is preparing to launch a presidential campaign in the next few weeks.

In an exclusive interview, his first with a non-US news organization, the former lawyer and star of "Law and Order", the US detective show, told The Times that his presidential bid would be based on his belief that Americans wanted change and that he was uniquely placed to provide it.

“I think they perceive the reality and the reality is that perhaps this is the occasion where the man meets the times.”

I can't understand his appeal. He's a former lobbyist, a corporate-style Republik (the McCain wing), and an actor. What's the big deal?

Image Image Image---Republican Secret Weapon

They find the man with the Image --

Look at all their top tier Candidates

Romney--looks straight out of Cenral Casting

Guilliani--wppears strong and can take charge at the drop of a hat.

MCCain--Image one can easily visualize him as President.

TV can do wonders if you have the Image.

3. but it's an ACT
literally!!!

You'd have to be stupid to actually fall for it. McCain, who endured torture (and whom I dislike a lot), is leagues ahead of Thompson in terms of toughness. I don't fucking get it.

2. McCain and Giuliani fail to inspire too many Republicans
Fred Thompson is not John McCain, and he isn't Rudy Giuliani.
To many Republicans, this is a big deal. Remember, these people
enthusiastically voted for George W. Bush twice. They are
not very hard to please.

8. I think his appeal is that he's not pro-choice gun-grabbing Giuliani, flip-flop Mormon Romney, or
Christian-bashing psycho McCain and the Republicans are pulling their hair our in desperation for want of an alternative. They will learn soon enough that Fred "Curly Sue" Thompson doesn't reflect the prejudices (which they quaintly refer to as their "values") any better than Rudy McRomney.

He's a flash in the pan who will probably torpedo McCain's hope of a resurgence for his sagging campaign. In the end, "Curly Sue" Thompson (as opposed to antisemitic Thompson, the other Thompson who screwed up Health and Human Services) will be fighting for third place with Giuliani while Romney wins and McCain proves, once again, that he's nothing but the perennial Republican bridesmaid.
