Nader sees his matching funds going down the tube and his ability
to get on the ballot, if Bloomberg gets in. He has to move soon or be left behind.

4. He hides under a rock & then comes out like a snake
at election time. Where does Mr. Peoples Advocate stand on the Iraq war & global warming &
health care anyway? Never hear a god damn thing from him except "vote for me".

7. I've known a few Greens over the years, and none of them like Nader.
They like the party, but not him. That's why they had Cobb run last time.

Nader is highly irrelevant at this point, and I doubt he'd garner any solid support at all.

8. Nader pretty much bankrupted the Green Party during his 2000 run.
And they've never fully recovered.

9. Exactly,and most of them know it.

Nader has few friends left besides his own ego at this point.Even with just the field as it currently is I don't see him getting any real support. There'll always be a few people, but the Greens I know are for Kucinich again this year, even before their own party.

And then we can add in possible names to the race like Gore,Hagel,Bloomberg,Clark....Nader would be toasted even more than he already will be.

The media will hype him up because they like to see a shitstorm, and they'll do their best to engineer one if they have to,but I just don't see too many people going the Nader way anymore.

3. This is one thing we can all agree on: Nader needs to sit this election out.
If there was ever a time to fight off his ego, it's now.

5. If only that were true
Plenty of "If the Dems don't give us good candidates they don't deserve our votes" rationalization of treason going on elsewhere on the site.

15. No, but it is really RUDE to come here
and talk about dems (as a whole)as being worthless and like the repubs. And RUDE to then say you are going to vote for someone outside of the party.

I don't have a problem with criticizing a dem politician who has violated the law, did something against a campaign promise or even sided with a repub on a bill. What I do have a problem with is that people come here and talk about how "progressive" they are and bash dems as a whole for not doing what they want, when they want.

The only thing that bashing all dems does, is turn people off to the dem party or turn them off from voting all together. Neither of which, is productive or progressive, or in my opinion, a very good picture of a dem.

16. ...and when, pray tell, have I said ANY of that?
It is NOT treason for people to vote their own conscience, and to say otherwise is to stoop to the pond-scum levels of the right-wing.

17. Not to sound like a broken record, but it's against
DU rules to support third party or to not support the Dem nominee in the general.

To me this is perfectly clear. We can argue who's the best Dem candidate to vote for in the primaries, but after that we vote for the Dem nominee in the general. We don't support third party/repugs/indies, etc. if there's a Dem running. We support the Dems.

18. NO
It's treasonous to knowingly allow people who we have first hand evidence WILL continue to destroy the constitution to maintain power when the opportunity is there to make sure they don't.

That's what treason is - crimes against the nation. Anybody want to argue that that is not what we've seen since 2001? Anybody want to argue that large numbers voting Green in swing states will cause it to continue? So when you have a chance to stop it.......

And spare me the kindergarten civics lesson that Bush can't run again. Name one of the Rep candidates who we should have confidence would restore all the damage done. I suppose in an extremely narrow view Ron Paul might, but a) He would do damage every bit as bad elsewhere and b) that's like saying it'll be sunshine and roses if Kucinich gets elected - neither have a single snowdrop in Hell's chance.

So no - it's not treasonous to vote other than Democratic. Even to vote for Republicans in most circumstances (for example a vote for Bush Sr or Dole would not have fallen into that category - and even a vote for Bush Jr the first time round can be excused because there was no proof he would do wgat ge did) but to vote for ANYONE who had no chance of stopping Bush in 2004, or to do so now for ANYONE who has no chance of stopping the unconstitutional power grab and rights slaugheter (which essentially yes means not voting for the Dem nominee whoever that is) then yep, that is guaranteed to cause harm to the nation and hence would be treasonous.

14. I think Nader is a bit old an unwell to deal with another run. The last time I saw him on
Edited on Thu Jun-21-07 12:51 PM by GreenPartyVoter
TV he seemed very tired. :(

On the other hand, Nader, Bloomberg, an R, and a D could make for a very interesting election, to say the least. Barring fraud I would expect the Dem to win.
