SICKO is NOT about health-care !
Edited on Sun Jul-08-07 03:17 PM by DeadElephant_ORG
It's much bigger than that. Moore is only using the health-care issue as the means to force attention to America's degrading national moral character - our incessant focus on the "me" rather than the "we", and especially our penchant to believe that the American people and the American "way of life" are superior to every other. Confronted with our empty arrogance, the audience last night howled with laughter and surprise. What else could we do?

This movie, as well as Gore's "Assault on Reason", and Carter's "Our Endangered Values" mark the beginning of the Left's return to broader questions of moral values and our move away from identity politics. Over the last 30 years, in our struggle to assure equality for women, minorities, and gays, we have made it appear that "me-ism" rules supreme as much to us as it does to those on the Right.

Our empathy, our commitment to the common good, and our humble willingness to search our souls forms the core our 100-year-old Progressive Movement. In that larger context, the necessity of equal treatment for all becomes self-evident. Folks, we are the moral majority!

1. We the People not Me Only
You are right. This is what the Democratic candidate should stress--and one already is--Dennis Kucinich.

3. TPTB do not want American to have a "We" consciousness
TPTB would rather see Americans divided into rugged individualism - as long as I got mine (paycheck) too bad for the other man. But once We the People start caring about all Americans having "Equality of Opportunity" in education, jobs, healthcare, etc. it's all over.

4. The essence of civilization is cooperation.

The basis of nationhood is a compact between its citizens to help each other survive the land, sea, air, and every other thing nature throws to try and dislodge us from the earth.

It's all very well to say that "the business of America is business"...but that's what we DO, the QUESTION is WHAT DO WE DO IT FOR? What is the purpose of America? That seems to have gotten muddled, lost, overlooked. People switch you over to a talk about business. Economics. Nuh uh. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF AMERICA?

E pluribus unum. Out of many, one. Does that mean one business, no competition? Oooh, that can't be right. THEN WHAT DOES IT MEAN? We stand together. WE STAND TOGETHER. Not the rich guys sit under the awning on plushy, ergonomic seating, while the rest of us drown in the rain. WE STAND TOGETHER.

If it doesn't mean that, what does it mean?

5. isn't "promote the general welfare" part of the consitution?
AFAIK that document's clauses are not supposed to be selectively applied or one part of it favoured and given precedence over another.

7. The "Me" decade never ended, apparently...
and this is a society that encourages a victimized mindset.

Two years ago was the London bombing...check out what John on AMERICAblog says about how the Brits were acting and behaving...on the day of the bombing.

We've become a country of adolescents.

Too late to Recommend...

It REALLY is a question of whether it is WE the People or "I've got mine, Jack so screw you."
