How has Dean's 50 state strategy impacted YOUR state?
I'd like some specifics if you have the time.

Thanks

1. Our State House Went Democratic! And Our Governor Won Again!

Now we just need to clean out the Senate and the courts. That's Michigan, by the way.

2. Do you attribute that to the 50 state strategy
Or to the backlash against fascism?

7. Without Out-of State Support, We'd Still Be GOP Toast
The Democratic Party was so beaten down by 12 years of Engler and Reagan-Bush that exhaustion set in, and there's always been the anti-metropolitan rednecks on more enlightened backs. The Klan and other white supremacy organizations are not unknown here.

Now our biggest problem is some of the Democratic dinosaurs, who think they are statesmen, when they are just enablers for BushCheneyCo.

8. You're welcome
Texas is one of those states that pays more to the national party than it gets back in aid from the national party. I'm glad to see that our money is going to good causes. I hope we can keep helping you to make Michigan Blue!

3. Paid staff positions with the state Dem party
that weren't there before.
I think it is difficult to judge the impact unless you know what people in these positions are actually doing. And even then, it's difficult to assess the impact. As you pointed out, are Dem party successes just a backlash against the g.o.p.?
What criterion would you use to gage the effectiveness of the 50 state strategy?

4. I'm not judging effectiveness
That's too subjective. I just wanted to collect information.

By the way, what state are you reporting from? Texas, my home, has gotten the paid staffers too. They are used for grass roots organizing if I am not mistaken.

5. this thread should be interesting
Edited on Wed Jul-11-07 10:02 AM by wyldwolf
I was thinking earlier this week about how the 50 State Strategy is really a mystery. We're told it had an effect but we're not told how or why. Details are sketchy. Names are almost non-existent. Certainly the DNC effected the outcome in some races in some states, but I've never seen a state-by-state breakdown on what exactly the DNC did in them and how that played into the races.

10. Apparently you were wrong
This thread went to page 3 in less than 24 hours and got fewer hits than the thread about air conditioner repairmen.

My conclusion based on the response is that Dean's strategy had little or no impact in most of the US.

15. Not the reason.
The reasons are...

Many simply don't know because they don't work with the local Democrats.

Many are so tied up in their 08 candidate that nothing else matters.

Many don't know what the political directors are doing, or even who they are. Ours are great, and the results are showing in the increased communication efforts with the grassroots, at least by email.

For the first time our state party pushed the DNC Reunion day. They have never mentioned it before.

The email is thorough and encouraging that work is being done.

And the final reason...Dean is a sensitive subject here during primaries.

You were totally wrong in your assessment of a lack of an impact.

6. In Maine -
Edited on Wed Jul-11-07 10:23 AM by MaineDem
We have 4 paid staffers. Three are regional field directors. They were able to organize, train, and mobilize counties that have never been very productive. The fourth staffer is a communications person.

Because of the organizing, we were able to increase our state House majority from one or two votes to almost 30! We re-elected our Dem Governor in a difficult (much more difficult than it should have been) 5 way race. State Senate remained a Democratic majority.

Most of this is attributed a great deal to the staffers on the job via the 50 state strategy. We would never have been able to achieve these results without them.

9. We voted Claire McCaskill, to replace Senator Talent.
Don’t know if it was anything to do with national politics, or just fed up with the local wing nuts. We have one of the national wing nuts son as our Guv,/Roy Blunts son, Matt. He has screwed this state up big time.

12. He has helped move a younger, more aggressive grassroots
activist into positions of power within the state Democratic Party. He has helped unseat Ann Northup.

I live in Ky and Change For Kentucky has become a real force for positive change. See our link below on the signature line.

13. Ohio now has Dem Govenor, Dem Senator
some Dems in State legislature.

Ohio Democratic Party was on life support before the 50 state
stratgy. All Republican Government.

There were some dramatic changes in Ohio last election.
Factors involved: Government Corruption at State Level
People upset with DC and War.

However, if the 50 state strategy with efforts to breathe life
into Democratic Party and get it organized the changes could
not have happened.
