Nader protests D.C. library plan

WASHINGTON, July 15: Ralph Nader is protesting a plan to let the developer of a nearby Ritz-Carlton hotel build on a site occupied by a library in Washington, D.C. ~snip~

The protesters oppose the D.C. Council's decision to let EastBanc Inc. replace the popular library building and a fire station in a project to include residential space, The Washington Post reported Sunday.

The city would retain ownership of a new library and fire station, to be built under and within the new project.

Calling the process dictatorial, Nader and other residents said they felt left out of a deal that greatly affects their community and was done without competitive bidding.
