AUGUSTA -- Maine's senators continue to back U.S. Sen. John McCain for president despite the campaign's recent problems with money and staff.
"As of right now, she is still backing McCain," said Rachel Irwin, a spokeswoman for U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine.
Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins also continues to support her Senate colleague.
Her press secretary, Kevin Kelley, released a statement from Collins saying: "I respect Sen. John McCain for his integrity and his experience. He has the leadership qualities necessary to move our country forward.
"While I do not agree with him on every issue, including the war in Iraq, I appreciate his efforts in areas such as government reform and cutting out wasteful spending," the statement said. "The financial problems that are currently affecting his presidential campaign are unfortunate, but I'm hopeful he is taking the necessary steps to turn the situation around."
