Pace Declares `sea Change' in Iraq

Tuesday July 17, 2007 11:46 AM

By ROBERT BURNS

AP Military Writer

RAMADI, Iraq (AP) - In his most optimistic remarks since the U.S.
troop buildup began, Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs
of Staff, said Tuesday that Iraq has undergone a “sea change”
in security in recent months, and that this will influence his
recommendation to President Bush on how long to continue the
current strategy.

After conferring with Maj. Gen. Walter Gaskin and other commanders
in this provincial capital west of Baghdad, Pace told reporters he
has gathered a positive picture of the security environment not only
here but also in Baghdad, where he began his Iraq visit on Monday.

He was asked whether this would inform his thinking about whether
to continue the current strategy, with extra U.S. troops battling to
security Baghdad and Anbar province.

“It will because what I'm hearing now is a sea change that is taking
place in many places here,” he replied. “It's no longer a matter
of pushing al-Qaida out of Ramadi, for example, but rather - now
that they have been pushed out - helping the local police and the
local army have a chance to get their feet on the ground and set
up their systems.”

1. And yet, out of the other side of his mouth, he's talking about another surge.
So which is it?

Is it better or not? Is the surge working, or do we need yet another surge?

How many dead troops will be enough to get you off so that we can end this charade?

2. Okay sure. Whatever. Can we come home now?
I'll let them stage their little kabuki dance, if it gives them cover to let us end the occupation.

3. A "sea change"? Does Gen. Pace mean like Katrina changed New Orleans?

4. "Only 29 villagers were massacred today. Whoopee." - Pace
"We republicon stooges consider that brilliant good news. Commander AWOL and his sidekick Dickie Five Military Deferments Cheney are so happy they have gone golfing. So everybody smile."

5. I thought Iraq was a desert country...
Shouldn't he say a 'sand change' as in they're throwing sand in our eyes?

6. Total GOP CYA
When they are finally forced to bring home troops they'll be able to say that they were "just about to win" when the liberals forced defeat on them.

7. "but only 36 miles of coastline":
"However Gen. Pace neglected to point out that there is no actual "sea" in Iraq and, in fact, the country has only 36 miles of coastline."

9. Show me the proof!!
Prove it! I want to hear some real numbers about how the American occupation in Iraq is being successful, because the only numbers I've heard lately is that 3614 American Troops have been killed and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. And for what? American efforts to impose democracy have failed miserably, Al-Qaeda was not present in Iraq before we got there and now they are a growing force as anti-american sentiment spreads in the region. What is this "sea change" because the only changes I've seen in Iraq are changes for the worse.
